Yesterday morning I woke up to the smell of campfire lingering around my head. I thought for sure I had washed out the smell of camping the night before, but maybe this time it was just being stubborn. I began my normal morning routine as I do every day. I looked through the selection of free kindle books, picking the ones I liked best, downloading a few for myself for later. I debated whether or not I would wash my hair earlier than usual since it seemed like the smell was getting stronger. A quick peek at Facebook was the beginning of a very frightening day. My town and all of the neighboring towns were on fire. I went outside to prove to myself that it wasn’t happening. The orange glow surrounding me and the ash falling on my face smacked me hard into reality.

Gold (The Stolen Years)

Miss Jane Mutta, feisty would-be-dentist, travelling across Australia in the late 1850s, is burdened with a large quantity of stolen gold she believes is rightfully hers. She is contemptuous of most of the men she comes across. But in gold rush Australia she needs a protector and finds herself in an unlikely partnership with rugged explorer, Douglas Fife.
Jane is an unconventional heroine, attracted to Douglas and yet determined to maintain her independence. The end, has a twist that may leave you shocked.
Something slightly different in the way of historical fiction. I’d say historical romance — but it’s much more than that. This book may be read as a stand-alone story or in series order.
