First thing I am going to do is move my car to a part of the street where people don’t set off fireworks. There is really only one small section, so I will be right back (Running to car). Awesome! I’m back (panting like I just ran 10 miles…even though I have never done that, so I can only speculate). I got the spot before the house across the street with all the young college aged kids got it. Next, put up chairs to save my spot on the side of the road for the best view of the fireworks. Wait, I’m still tired…sent hubby to set up chairs. Yesh!! All set. Have a Happy and Safe 4th of July Everyone!!

Hey Patrice ~

I LOVE this story idea! You have my complete blessing. I can’t wait to read it.

Hugh Howey, author of WOOL

Karma lives in a Silo deep beneath the earth. She isn’t sure of much else…only that the wallscreen shows an outside view that is barren and swirling with toxic clouds. Most of the other residents seem content—except for the ones who jump to their deaths from the hundred-level spiral staircase. And the ones who are pushed.

After the doctor prescribes a special medicine and tells her to avoid tap water, Karma begins to remember a very different world.Despite the fog in her mind, she is convinced that something came before.Such memories are dangerous to talk about, or even to know.

She must figure out who can be trusted. The doctor…her husband…or no one at all.”

This is a short story based on Hugh Howey’s WOOL books, the first of a projected five ebooks in the Karma series.Karma #2, CLEANINGUP, and Karma #3, DEEP JUSTICE, are also available.Look for #4, RISING UP, by July 1.All parts will be put together in the Karma collection by the end of the summer!

Part memoir ofa 30-something woman, Valerie, who wrote for sit-com; part love story of how Valerie and an unexpected man fall in love, almost lose their minds and each other only to fall more deeply in love by book’s end; and part travelogue of a long-term trip to Sydney, Australia during the 2000 Olympics, a place where everyone’s beautiful but drunk and the landscape is sharper than anyone living there.

Instead of a linear tale of each in sequence, these three threads weave together and dovetail to tell a story where by each chapter’s end, a new view of Valerie is revealed. It’s a high profile and yet down-to-earth journey of a woman looking to make her life work when nothing around her makes sense at any given time.Particularly her work in sit-com, a place where women are not considered funny, but toilet jokes are.

GLOBAL WARMING’S EFFECTS AS SHOWN TO CHILDREN

“…if you are a responsible parent interested in the environment, ecology and the future of the earth and if you are trying to instill that interest and responsibility in your children, this is a book that will help…there is a section in the book that gives children a list of the things they can do to help keep our planet healthy…what a wonderful and gentle way to introduce to our children their responsibility to the earth and its environment.”

TEACHING CHILDREN TO THINK AND ACT

“As a parent, I am so grateful for an author such as Stephanie Lisa Tara…I am so grateful for someone who writes well researched work that is then written from a perspective that can touch children not only to a single cause or concern, but also to simply be aware, open-minded, and compassionate. If anything provides the end of our human world it will be the damage was cause to us and our world through gluttony and apathy. We are becoming increasingly separate from nature and for each other. How ironic it is that as we warm the earth through our actions and inactions, we create a human environment that is cold and distant. Stephanie Lisa Tara provides that warm, safe place for children to learn. She writes from the heart and with love for our earth and our children. How wonderful is that?”

BEAUTIFULLY ILLUSTRATED, SIMPLY STATED INTRODUCTION TO YOUNG KIDS

“Beautiful does not cover the illustrations in this book. They are pure artwork. The colors portray the tone on the pages and accent the story beautifully…I also loved the last page in the book offering simple ideas on how we can all save energy. They are good, easy ideas for young children to understand and look at how they, too, can help…I even took it to my daughter’s school so her class could read it and they loved it. My daughter later told me how we “need to remember to shut of the light when we leave a room.” Good endorsement right there.”
