The girl behind the counter ringing up the latest treasures I found at the thrift store, could not possibly have used more words to ask if I was eligible for the senior discount. She was beating around the bush so much that I actually could feel myself getting older. I always interrupt people in conversations because I get excited to say what is in my head. I am trying to be better about that, but I thought maybe this particular time would be appropriate. I wasn’t sure, so I let her continue. She was giving me some much needed compliments, so there was that to consider. At one point in this extended version of the “How old are you question” I started to question if we were becoming friends. Midway through my inner dialog about that possibility she finally finished asking me if I was eligible for the senior discount. My response: Not yet, but I’m working on it!
