My body needs at least a month to get over the last project.  I am so desperate not to think that I am trying to come up with songs that will get stuck in my head, blocking out all other thoughts. I gotta make sure I don’t pick a song that inspires me. Please no inspiration… have mercy on me.

Fiona’s parents have the local shop and bar, and her younger sisters are already leading independent lives. Bridget is at a convent school preparing to be a nun and Angela has led a life of her own since she was hospitalised up in Dublin for years with childhood polio.

Then, sudden tragedy forces Fiona to postpone her departure for New York. As her mother sinks into illness and depression, her responsibilities mount. When help is offered by her aunt and cousin, Fiona is mystified by her mother’s animosity towards them.

As summer approaches, an American architect, Michael O’Sullivan, takes a room above the bar. Within a short time Fiona finds herself involved in an unexpected and passionate affair.

Then, as a surprising incident threatens Bridget’s vocation, Angela uncovers information which explodes old family secrets.

By using the energy of the land, some humans have found they can develop extraordinary abilities. At the age of seventeen, these warriors, magicians, chemists, and psychics are allowed the opportunity to train at the Academy, increasing their opportunity for a well-paying career. But there’s a catch. They must fight beside the Army if requested by their king. Most aren’t concerned by this, as the current treaty has prevented battle for nearly seventy years… but that’s about to change.

Of four roommates with interwoven stories, Cleve Polken takes focus as a hostile warrior who feels more comfortable in a duel than a conversation. Never getting past his parents’ death, Cleve has developed a crippling fear of psychics, for some may have the power to resurface the torment he buried within himself upon his parents’ passing. Cleve’s forced to face this fear head-on when he discovers that not only is one of his roommates a psychic, but that he has an overwhelming attraction to her, which he quickly attributes to a psychic spell, nothing more.

By the time an army of savage, reptilian men called Krepps become involved in the war, all hope of resolution without battle is shattered. In this powerful army, one born with the inability to smell doesn’t have the same feeding urges as his fellow Krepps and is outcast because of it. He finds himself with an unlikely ally in the middle of a crossroad, trying to find a way to reunite with his sister. Little does he know how much his choices will twist the fate of the war and alter the lives of the four human roommates forever.

A DARK CRIME THRILLER SET IN THE UNDERBELLY OF DETROIT’S GANGLAND

“Who am I? You don’t need to know. I don’t tell anyone my name, not even with a sack over my head and a gun to my skull. Consider yourself lucky. If I told you who I am and why I’m in Detroit, I’d have to kill you. Why? Because that’s who I am… a killer.

What do I hope to achieve? Let’s just say that still breathing tomorrow is good enough. I’ve lied, cheated, and killed in nearly every city in the world. Detroit will be no different. Nothing stands in my way, because I’m ready to die. That’s my edge.

Did you buy all that? I used to. But I don’t know who I am any more. Not since I met her, anyway. People change. Maybe even me. Or maybe I’m lying to both of us.”

100 Things To Get Rid of: What My Minimalism Journey Taught Me about Life
by Jera Sky
4.2 Stars (8 Reviews)
Genre: Self-Help

FREE for a limited time

Heck if most of us haven’t gotten lost in our lives at some point, looking for a way to see through it or a guide to figure stuff out. Sometimes you have to leave things behind to be light enough to keep trekking ahead. Here is some raw honesty to kick all your worst traits to the curb. The following book is everything I’ve learned on my minimalist life journey as well as things I may be currently working on. You may think this is only going to be about minimalism, getting rid of extra t-shirts and useless kitchen equipment, but it is in fact about life in general. Our lives are cluttered with so much stuff other than just tangible things. Don’t think of this as your usual run of the mill minimalism book, it is SO much more than that!! This life advice may help you to become a happier, healthier person on cloud nine doing things you never dreamed were actually possible. Forget being miserable til the day you die.

In my early twenties I was a much different person than the person I am today. Implementing more and more of the things on this list, made me the kinder, more loving, happier, debt free person I am today.

I hope this helps you in some way. Actually I don’t hope, I KNOW it will help you in some way, if you let it.

This was originally based off of one of my very successful Youtube videos. So many people like it I decided to make it better.

Here’s some sneaks:

33. That you know enough. The world today is constantly changing, so you need to be constantly learning in order to keep up. I mean if you want. If you wanna keep up and you wanna be like, living in the world that we live in today, but if you don’t, just by all means, continue doing exactly what you’re doing. Also the world is doubling its information every 18 months, in two years, if you’re not learning, you’re behind. Then in 4 years you’re waaaaaaay behind.

37. Thinking that everybody is watching you. Trust me, they’re concerned about themselves.

42. Saying you’re too busy. Pick and choose. Make your life more manageable.

After Henry: A love story
by Michelle Morgan

Genre: Literature & Fiction | Coming of Age | Women’s Fiction | Contemporary Fiction

FREE for a limited time

“At the 90th floor, the stairwell door was propped open. There was a window facing the North Tower, and all you could see was this massive hole. Just blackness. Dad’s grip on my hand tightened. The building was eviscerated.”

Emma Jenkins can’t remember the day her father died.

When tragedy gripped the nation, it hit home for Emma. Forced to flee Manhattan, leaving behind her dreams and childhood, Emma found a way to steady her life, to build around the gaping hole.

Now, after three years, she returns to New York to begin a new future — and face her past. But when the memories come back, she is confronted with lies she was forced to believe. Caught between her present and her past, will Emma accept her memories as truth… or find a way to erase them for good?

Told with both compassion and candor, After Henry is a provocative story about a girl who finds love, and then finds love again.

Reader Review: “After Henry is a multi-layered read, and a beautiful commentary on the resiliency of the human heart. This is by no means an ‘easy’ novel, but a deeply satisfying, beautifully told emotional journey, fearlessly exploring uncomfortable truths of trauma, grief, and growth — whilst somehow still maintaining an inspiring message of hope.”

Note to Readers: This is a standalone novel. While it contains a central love story, it does not follow the classic genre conventions of “romance.”

Colter’s Trail: A Western Adventure
by Lee Selders
4.4 Stars (45 Reviews)
Genre:

FREE for a limited time

This story follows John Colter, the main character, from Salyersville, Kentucky to Santa Fe, New Mexico.
The excitement never slows; outlaws; Indians; a passenger who turns out to be a thief; gunfights; getting lost in the desert, etc. It seems that wherever Colter goes, trouble follows. However, he’s a very resourceful character who can handle anything that comes his way.
Although the story-line is fairly traditional, the main characters and some of the events are not. Colter is quite unusual for his time His appearance, personality, style of dress and the equipment and weapons he carries are very unique. He smokes a pipe and loves his coffee, and he is continually making something to suit his needs from what he has on hand. He has a unique rapport with his horse that is exciting, interesting and very often humorous, while his weapons and knowledge of hand-to-hand combat make for some exciting fight scenes.
This is not just another “Western”. It has humor, romance and suspense scenes that will keep a reader’s heart pounding. The dialog and the never-ending excitement make a story that is hard to put down.

That is until she learns the truth about her birthplace: a realm where magic rules, and mythical creatures roam. A land that is now the key to saving her mother.

Skyla crosses worlds only to be caught up in a dangerous web of warring kingdoms. Events soon spiral out of control as a strange man starts to stalk her dreams, and the secrets of the past reveal a terrifying truth about the present.

War is coming–led by a tyrant with a personal grudge against her whole family. Faced with capture and death, or worse the loss of her loved ones, Skyla’s only hope lies is in the power buried within. A power to change her–and the fate of her world.

Deep Christmas Light Thoughts https://www.bookbasset.com/2019/04/06/deep-christmas-light-thoughts/ https://www.bookbasset.com/2019/04/06/deep-christmas-light-thoughts/#respond Sat, 06 Apr 2019 19:05:56 +0000 https://www.bookbasset.com/?p=24247 One of my neighbors still hasn’t taken down their Christmas decorations yet. They made a Christmas tree out of tinsel and hung it outside their front door. We have had some pretty crazy wind and rain for the past two months, but that sucker has held strong. I am impressed by it’s resilience, but highly annoyed that it’s still up. I really shouldn’t give it two thoughts, since they are not in view of my house. They are down the street. Unlike the neighbor I share a back fence with that has left her Christmas lights up for two years. At this point they are no longer Christmas lights, they’re just lights. I always wonder about people who leave their Christmas decorations up until Summer. Why don’t they take them down? Just WHY??? Maybe that’s what is really weighing heavy on my mind. Not the fact that they are up, but the why are they up.

The Long Drunk
by Eric Coyote
4.0 Stars (84 Reviews)
Genre: Mystery, Thriller & Suspense | Mystery

FREE for a limited time

In Venice, California, the sun always shines, but that’s not much help if you’re a homeless drunk like James Murphy, a man with a past of shattered dreams and empty bottles. Murphy’s life in the gutter was bad enough, but now bad gets worse. Murphy has one week to solve a cold-case murder that has police detectives stumped, or else his best friend dies. Inspired by Chandler, Steinbeck, and Quentin Tarantino, THE LONG DRUNK is a darkly comic crime/detective saga filled with sex, violence, booze, and plenty of foul street talk. Hard-boiled, heartbreaking, and gritty as heck, it thoroughly immerses the reader in the squalid yet resourceful underworld of the down-and-out. By juxtaposing the cruel realities of life on the street with the obscene wealth of the Hollywood elite, Eric Coyote creates an ultra noir masterpiece for the ages. THE LONG DRUNK, named to Kirkus Reviews’ Best of 2012, will leave you cringing, laughing, and begging for more.

Water Is The Genius https://www.bookbasset.com/2019/04/06/water-is-the-genius/ https://www.bookbasset.com/2019/04/06/water-is-the-genius/#respond Sat, 06 Apr 2019 14:30:17 +0000 https://www.bookbasset.com/?p=24242 I am a GENIUS! We are going on a little vacation next week and a bathing suit is required. Of course I have to get a new one, since my old one was worn out from many seasons at the very very green lake. I can’t go to a nice pool with a swamp water bathing suit. It actually smells of swamp. Our standards are very low when the temperature outside is 105 degrees. Green water is no deterrent. So I had to buy a new swimsuit. I ordered 10 contenders online, and yesterday they all came. It was time to try them on, but first I had to prep myself. I ate a bowl of ice cream, a cup of coffee, and a huge turkey sandwich. Yes, in that order. I was properly fluffed up. I started with the largest size first. Too big… YAY!!! Okay… With my confidence up, I dove in and tried the rest. I was pleasantly surprised to find two that didn’t make me cry. SHWEET! The full stomach also guaranteed I could still fit into it after I ate, and on vacation I can eat… a lot. I love the freedom of knowing that I don’t have to worry about getting my body “Beach Ready” for this summer. I fit in the swimsuit now, so it’s going to be smooth sailing here on out.

Creep. Freak. Crazy Eyes.
I’ve heard it all.
Over the years, they’ve slammed me with every demeaning name in the book.
Their taunts warped me like a steady stream of poison.
Anger replaced anxiety as I started believing the cruelty spat my way.
Until she showed up and changed everything.

Lennon Bennett is pure innocence — warm sunshine breaking apart my stormy existence.
She’s everything good and maybe I can be too.
For her. With her. Because of her.
Lennon doesn’t know I’m beckoned closer with each breath.
She isn’t aware that I’m completely consumed with her.

It’s become my sole purpose to protect her, by any means necessary.
But if she discovers the depth of my obsession, it will be the end of me.
So, I remain in the shadows.
Waiting. Watching. Wanting.
She’ll be my first. My last. My only.

To help her begin researching the book, Cash’s publisher rents her a place on the edge of the Aegean Sea, near where Atlantis is rumored to have disappeared thousands of years ago. When the weather turns into a perfect storm, the short boat tour becomes an odyssey from which they may never return — and may not even live to tell the tale.

I can’t say I am upset about it. My hubby might not be too thrilled, but I am getting a good giggle out of it. I saw a pair of purple pants that I just had to have. I have not bought a pair of purple pants in 400 years, but for some reason I just had to have them. Yesterday I wore them for the first time with a black and grey striped sweatshirt. I wore that outfit all day and didn’t think twice about it. Until hubby came home and gave me the strangest look. He didn’t say anything, but he stared a little too long at the pants…confused. I took the hint and went to examine myself in the mirror. A task I should have done much much earlier in the day, but I didn’t. I am a bit hurt that none of my friends, that I saw that day, had informed me that I looked like cartoon character. No one was surprised by how I was dressed! So for me I guess weird is normal. WELL FINE! I did giggle at the fact that the pants looked just like the ones Monty Don wears in every show. He has enough sense not to wear the striped sweatshirt, but the pants were all him. Oh yaaa… I am not going to stop wearing these bad boys. I AM GOING FULL MONTY!!! Wait.. that means something else doesn’t it? I will Google that later.
