YESH! We have a winner. Yesterday we woke up and were out the door pretty quick. Rain was in the forecast and we wanted to check out Stanley Park before it hit. But first, my oldest wanted to see the Vancouver Central Public Library. One thing I noticed about Vancouver is the architecture is absolutely amazing. The library certainly didn’t disappoint with its Roman Colosseum inspired design. We slowly made our way through eight floors and rested and took in the view of the city from the ninth floor outdoor garden. It is very strange to see a bumble bee and a dragonfly that high up in the middle of the city. Soon we were off to the Vancouver Aquarium in Stanley park. I really could have just drove around and around the park all day. I was loving the slower pace. Around 3pm were started feeling little sprinkles and decided we needed to head back. We knew were had an early morning the next day and wanted to rest a bit. We are heading out super early today for the ferry to Victoria. EXCITING!!!

BUILD FIRST. The Protective Biology System -Quick Start Handbook Edition: Why Dieting Doesn’t Last, When Cardio Makes it Worse, and How to Work With the System to Create Lasting Change
by Andrew Stretch
4.5 Stars (2 Reviews)

FREE for a limited time

The BUILD FIRST system exists in two formats. The Quick-Start Handbook delivers the complete framework in a streamlined format — at less than one third the size of the full manual. The Handbook contains everything needed to understand and apply the system immediately, and pairs with the optional standalone guides — the Strength System, Food Guide, Field Guide, FAQ Guide, Big Muscle guide, Beyond ReBUILT, and Kids + Teens Guide — to rebuild the full manual one piece at a time, as needed.

The full manual includes all the guides as extended appendices, and optional supporting detail and graphic illustrations for readers who want a deeper understanding.

Before we talk about what this book does, we need to talk about something most fitness books never mention.
Every person reading this has a full suit of muscle tissue running head to toe — determining how many calories their body burns every hour of every day, including while they sleep. Not just when you are exercising, not just when you are getting your steps in, every minute of every day.

Muscle is the foundation of a healthy metabolism. A healthy adult woman carries approximately 27 percent of her body weight as structural muscle. A healthy adult man carries approximately 36 percent. Repeated dieting cycles can drop to as low as 15 percent in women and 20 percent in men — almost half the healthy baseline — while still appearing to have reached a ‘normal’ or ‘healthy’ weight on the scale. The internal picture however is very different. The body is running on a fraction of its intended, healthy metabolic capacity, and every future diet attempt makes it even worse.

When calories are aggressively reduced through conventional dieting, up to one third of weight lost comes from muscle rather than fat — and in crash dieting scenarios alongside heavy cardio, that figure can exceed one half. For every pound of muscle lost metabolism slows further, the body burns fewer calories at rest, weight comes back faster than it left and rebound weight ends in a worse place than it began.

A critical point about cardio most programs get wrong: Cardio does not build muscle. It uses the muscle that already exists. At the right time and in the right amount it supports cardiovascular health. Applied during calorie restriction, before metabolism is stable, it accelerates muscle loss, reduces at-rest calorie burn, and deepens damage. More cardio is not the answer. The sequence is.

This book is not about building big, visible muscle. The muscle this system rebuilds is internal, the metabolic engine that determines how efficiently the body manages energy and fat storage. It is designed to return the body to the natural 27 and 36 percent baseline, not to the 54 percent of an elite bodybuilder. At a restored natural baseline, hunger becomes predictable, energy stabilizes, fat storage becomes manageable, and the body stops fighting every attempt to change. For readers who want to pursue visible muscle beyond the baseline, the Beyond ReBuilt and Big Muscle Guides cover that as one of six directional options once a healthy metabolism is rebuilt, but it is not the purpose of the core foundation program.
