Yesterday I did the very thing you are not supposed to do. I fell for Mother Nature’s biggest trick. False Spring. We have about three or so false Springs around here, and those with any self control know that just because the sun comes out for a few minutes, does not mean the threat of frost is gone. I fell for it so hard that I dragged hubby to three different plant nurseries all about 30 minutes from the other. I couldn’t help myself. I need to get my hands in the ground. I want pretty little flowers. I usually like to have my garden ready a few weeks before Easter, so everything is well establish and has had a bit of time to grow in a little. This year I am filling the garden with lavender. It’s going to be a feast for the bees.

The Shofet

“The epic adventure tale of a young man who wanted to be counted among Israel’s mighty men of old, but finds out quickly that being a hero is not what he expected.”

948 BC, Israel. A quiet year. Prosperous. King Solomon sits the throne and peace covers the land like a blanket tucked snugly beneath the chin.

But not all is as it seems. Whispers abound. Tales of amassing armies and midnight assassins. Waking demons and children cast upon altars of fire.

For the young sheepherder, Joshua, the stories seem fantastical. He lives in Shulem and nothing exciting ever happens in Shulem. Goats outnumber people ten to one. Sheep fifty to one. But then one morning Joshua returns from the fields to find his uncle’s head set on a pike and his mother and sister missing. Beside the ashes of his still smouldering house, the prophet Eli is waiting with a mysterious message from Elohim. Judgment comes swiftly.

Joshua flees Shulem. Pursued by shadowy assassins through the forests of Bashan and into the Argob, fabled land of the giants, Joshua must learn to put his faith in Elohim even as everything is taken from him – his home, his family, even the slave girl he pulled down a mountain to free.

Murder, She Brined (Brine & Punishment Cozy Mysteries Book 2)
by Liora Dawn
3 Stars (1 Review)

FREE for a limited time

Saltmarsh Cove loves a tidy story, and nothing sells faster than fear dressed up as “public health.”

Mara Delaney is finally getting Delaney Preserves off the ground when she hosts a winter “world ferments” night to boost sales and prove her shop is more than quaint scenery for tourists. The event brings crowds, cameras, and a visiting food podcaster who knows exactly how to poke at a small town’s pride. He is charming on mic, cruel off it, and loudly interested in exposing Saltmarsh Cove’s curated “authenticity.”

Then he ends up dead.

The town immediately tries to frame the death as a fermentation accident. The council starts circling with inspection talk, shutdown threats, and insinuations meant to make Mara say the one sentence they can weaponize: fermentation is dangerous. Sheriff Cal Reed pushes back, but he is boxed in by politics and a town that would rather protect its brand than face the truth.

Mara refuses to be managed. In her kitchen, timing is evidence, and pressure changes leave fingerprints. With Sprig underfoot and her business on the line, she digs into the one thing the town cannot spin: what actually happened.
