So you know how I was saying that I ate so much of my birthday cake on Sunday, that I would never want to see cake again? Yaaa… I didn’t even make it through this morning without craving cake. I’m a little suspicious of my stomach though. I am still full from breakfast, so there is no reason for me to have cake. Hold on. I am going to eat just a tiny bite of frosting and see if that kills the craving. I will be right back. (hold music playing in the background). Okay, I’m back. That tasted pretty good. Like really really good. That might have been a mistake to do. That one little bite tasted absolutely wonderful with the coffee I am still nursing from this morning. I think I may have just messed up. I could distract myself from the cake and do something els, but the something else would be to go thrifting. I found a lot of fantastic treasures this month. The problem with a successful month is if you don’t go thrifting you feel like you might be missing out.I have work to do and so I am going to force myself to not eat cake or go shopping. Gotta be productive! Adulting is hard.

Life is good for Benedict Aritza… He owns a butcher shop with his best friend, he is the town’s favorite, ladies always smile his way and he’s even put forward as a potential future mayor. His perfect little life is disrupted though when Curley, his business partner, goes missing while on a buffalo-hunting expedition. Benedict is not the kind of man to give up on his friend. He’s determined to find him and bring him home safe. There’s another problem, however; Curley’s sister is dead set on coming along to search for her brother. Now, in close quarters as they go on the dangerous hunt together, can he resist the soft spot he’s always had for her?

Hallie lost her parents suddenly a few years back. Since then, she’s been very protective of her brother, the only family she has left. When Curley goes missing, there is no way she will let this pass without a fight. When she discovers to her horror that the vicious Pablo Javier gang is behind this, she knows there’s no time to waste and that she should act immediately. If she has to put up with Benedict for a few days in order to save her brother… so be it. Yet, Hallie has always liked Benedict, more than she’d care to admit. Can she put her pride aside and convince Benedict that she is the competent and skillful comrade that should join him on this perilous quest?

As Benedict and Hallie embark on their journey together, they’ll soon find that their quest was never what they thought it would be. What started as a rescue mission ends up becoming an escape plan to save their own lives. With shots fired, and a gang that even has corrupt sheriffs on their side, will Benedict and Hallie manage to help each other out? How will they ever manage to survive when they realize that they’re not the ones on the hunt after all, but those being hunted?

The Alchemist’s Revenge: The Original Game of Thrones (The Company of Archers saga Book 21)
by Martin Archer
4.0 Stars (148 Reviews)
Genre: Historical Fiction | Action & Adventure

FREE for a limited time

Arrows fly, swords clash, women are bedded, prizes are taken, nobles and churchmen are gulled out of their coins, and the French and Venetians are successfully blamed for things they did not do. This is another exciting story in Martin Archer’s continuing and action-packed saga about the men of a company of English archers in the medieval world’s very real game of thrones. It is by far the longest and one of the most action-packed and wittiest. Flashman would be proud, Tom Brown appalled, and the men of the Marines and the SAS would have felt right at home.

The year is 1219 in Constantinople and the recently widowed English-born Empress of the great Latin Empire has donated enough coins to the Pope to have been chosen by God to be her young son’s regent. She, in turn, has hired George Courtenay’s Cornwall-based Company of Archers to help her defend her throne against the many kings and princes who are trying to replace her. This is the story of a real life game of thrones set in the early years when the first of the great heavily armed merchant companies were being formed and Britain was just beginning to grow into a naval and commercial powerhouse that would punch far above its weight in the centuries that followed. It is a good read.
