I haven’t had much desire to go into the garden lately. And by lately I mean for the past two months. What should have been the best times of my garden, have been nothing but me dealing with wild animals destroying garden beds, and aphids on everything. Today I decided to just brave the disappointment and see what I could salvage. After about a couple of hours of clipping and weeding, I realized it was not as bad I thought. It’s bad, but I guess it could be worse. I am going to clean it up and and try to come up with a new plan for Spring. It’s weird to think that it’s not even Halloween and I need to start making plans for Spring. Erg.

Lisa Hodges needs to make a decision fast. Thanks to her dead husband’s gambling addiction, her bank account is dangerously low. In her early fifties with a large, waterfront home on Nantucket to support, Lisa hasn’t worked in over thirty years, has no in-demand skills and is virtually unemployable.

Her only options are to sell the house and move off-island, or, she could use her cooking and entertaining skills and turn her home into a bed and breakfast. She desperately needs it to succeed because she has adult children with problems of their own and wants to stay close to them.

Her oldest daughter, Kate, has a fabulous career in Boston–working as a writer for a popular fashion magazine and engaged to a dangerously handsome photographer, who none of them have met.

Kate’s twin, local artist, Kristen, is growing frustrated with her relationship with an older, separated businessman.

Youngest daughter, Abby, is happily married to her high school sweetheart, and they’ve been trying to have a baby. But it hasn’t happened yet, and Abby wonders if it’s a sign that maybe their marriage isn’t as perfect as everyone thinks.

Take a trip to Compass Cove, an enchanted town full of magic and mayhem…

Zora Wick is at the end of her tether. After a lifetime of bad luck, it seems she’s ended up at rock bottom, saddled with debt from her cheating ex, a dead-end job with no prospects and a studio apartment that’s not even fit for a dog. It all seems a little hopeless until there’s a knock at the door…

It turns out Zora has long-lost family on the other side of the country, hidden away in a little town on an unknown island. After uprooting herself Zora arrives in town to find that not only has she inherited an estranged family, she’s also the sole heir of the town’s local bakery — there’s one other thing too, apparently she’s a witch.

With a whole world of magic to learn and a small business to run it seems like Zora’s hands are more than full, but when some new evidence comes to light and casts doubts on the nature of her aunt’s death, Zora is quickly drawn into solving a murder mystery.

At her side is a sarcastic cat, headstrong cousins, and a whole host of townsfolk who are nothing short of interesting. Can Zora learn to bake, catch a killer and settle into her new life without ending up on the chopping block herself?

The Messenger’s Mischief (Wells Fargo West #1)
by Julia David
4.5 Stars (355 Reviews)
Genre: Religion & Spirituality | Religious & Inspirational Fiction | Romance

FREE for a limited time

The Messenger’s Mischief, a winning combination of humor, hope, her-oics, history, and heart-hugging romance. The plucky Miss Elaine Balderhoff’s life is hanging by a thread as the Wells Fargo stage races across the Nevada desert. Bandits have attacked the stage, and the shotgun messenger sworn to protect the passengers is now the one in desperate need of help. In all the ruckus, the unthinkable has happened. He’s lost the new Virginia City schoolmarm’s cat. Finding her beloved Moses will certainly trump Mr. Roth’s need to stay alive. Overly responsible, Miss Balderhoff realizes when the Wells Fargo man isn’t snarling from pain, he’s quite handsome. More than Christian duty sparks her steps to his aid.

Serious and determined, Sawyer Roth could care less about a silly cat. Without a working shoulder, he’s no good as a Wells Fargo shotgun messenger. Gutsy and kind, he’ll give Miss Balderhoff that. But her sweet smile and warm touch will not persuade him into affections with a gal so odd and peculiar as her. And a shotgun messenger’s not allowed to marry, so there is no future to entertain.Or is there?

All my western historical romances are PG, clean with a touch of pepper, and always a delightfully happy ending.
