The third botanical garden the baby bassets and I visited this summer was the Luther Burbank Gardens in Santa Rosa, California. How I have lived in the county for over 20 years and never visited that place is beyond me. It’s not like gardening is a new interest or hobby for me. I have been interested in plants and landscaping all my life. As a little girl I would trim the ivy from the steps down to a little brick patio in my childhood home, while my little black and white rabbit, Trigger, would hop and play around me. I dreamed of the day I could go to a nursery and buy all the plants I wanted. It’s odd to me that it has taken me all these years to finally get out there and see all the different gardens. My partner in crime just told me about a Lavender Labyrinth less than 5 miles from my house. WHAT!!?? Maybe I can get her to check it out with me today. We shall see. For now check out the third post in my new Gardens tab on Book Basset by clicking here. This was originally publish in my other Blog, Girls Bee Haven. The gallery is easier to view on that site, and you can visit it by clicking here. Enjoy!!

A lot has happened since we left Ella lost in Seattle. She’s become a mature woman and loves being a ‘timeshare mother’ with her hippie parents. Life is good. Hans is part of the past, that is until Alfred suddenly utters the word “dad”… And when Frank announces they are going to Europe for the summer, Ella finds herself split in two. Should she go find him? And is she still in love with him. Or is she, in fact, in love with someone else?

A warm-hearted and humorous romance/family drama, Lost in Love, is a celebration of family, friendship, and finding love when and where you least expect it.

The Stone Arrow (The Pagans Book 1)

Southern England, 3000 BC. Incomers, bringing agriculture from mainland Europe, are wrecking the virgin forests with slash-and-burn. The ancient territories and way of life of the native, nomadic hunter-gatherers, unchanged for millennia, are under threat.

Political rivalry inside the village of Burh, and the farmers’ superstitions, result in an attack on a nomad tribe in its nearby summer camp.

Tagart, the heir to the chief and at the very peak of his powers, is the only survivor.

The farmers thought they had killed everybody. They could not have made a worse mistake.

“This is a gripping thriller set convincingly in neolithic Sussex. Richard Herley’s first novel is crammed with archaeological detail, but all of it is subordinate to the fast-moving story of Tagart. His wife, child and tribe have been wiped out by a farming village, and we follow his dogged attempts to wreak revenge single-handedly with mixed horror and admiration. In the Stone Age, tribal loyalty is the only morality, and as Herley resurrects this time with such panache, the gruesome bits of Tagart’s vendetta seem justified.”

1923.

The Great War is over, but the ghosts of the dead still linger.

Agatha Christie was one of the lucky ones – her husband returned from the conflict – and for her, and her local neighbours, life has resumed.

Agatha is beginning to gain some notoriety for her crime writing and she is busy working on her latest novel.

But then her neighbour tells her there has been a real ‘murder at the vicarage’ – a young man, Cecil Coates, has been poisoned, and due to Christie’s expertise in the crime genre, the neighbourhood wants her to investigate.

At first Agatha is reluctant to get involved. After all, she is a writer, not a detective.

But then Robert Sayer, godson of her neighbour, and one of the main suspects in the case, appeals to her directly for help, and she finds herself being drawn in…

What secrets and lies are lying beneath the village’s tranquil exterior?

Can Agatha Christie use her imagination to draw the murderer out?

The world is under attack. An unseen entity has risen from the debris of ancient Babel to haunt the world of today. The Code rules all with a technological grip of power. Can it be broken or is the world doomed to the slavery and oppression of one unreasoning thought?

John Kilroy just wants to be left alone on the island that he was exiled to by the Agency for Good. Back in the real world he’s looked at as a monster guilty of the worst of crimes. Doesn’t matter anymore anyway, as the world is safe from his anger, as long as he stays on his island. But what he doesn’t know is that the world in his absence has changed radically. Nations have fallen and a new world order, the Code, has risen to take control over all who oppose them. The Code controls all communication, all utilities, all commerce, in short everything that made the world a vastly different mixture of identities. The Code seeks to destroy all thought other than what is to be found in its own binary thought and that of the will of its masters, who trace back to the first uprising of man to install universal thought and language, The Tower of Babel. To that end the Code will stop at nothing to achieve its manifest destiny of universal oneness. No atrocity is too great to be done to achieve its objective. Many atrocities have already been committed against humanity. Suddenly John once viewed, as an unreasoning vicious brute is the only one suited for the task of surviving a trip through hell to find the one person left on the planet, who stands the best chance at breaking the Code. John couldn’t care less about the world. It rejected him so he rejects it, but the mission if he chooses to accept it, does offer him what he desires most in life. All he has to do is save her first.
