Did you know dogs could fly? Yup. They are not exactly graceful about it, but they can catch some major air when, in the middle of the night, God decides to drop a piano on your roof and roll it across the entire length of the house. There are currently tiny paw prints on the ceiling from Junebug making a run for it. Junebug will protect me and my family with the ferocity of a T-rex / hippopotamus from anyone trying to deliver a package to my front door, but God dropping pianos is above her pay grade. She was gone. I can’t blame her though. It was pretty loud, and the rain that followed was impressive as well. I was a bit disappointed that the thunder didn’t continue. Thunder makes me a bit nervous, but it is always so fascinating to listen to. Junebug doesn’t agree. Casper and Sinny have no idea what I am talking about. It’s going to take a lot more than pianos on the roof to wake them up… like me trying to be as quiet as possible to make coffee without disturbing anyone, so I can have a bit of peace alone first thing in the morning.

Poor boy meets rich girl should have resulted in “happily ever after” — not exactly. Doug quickly learns he also covets independence. Events begin to unfold in each of their lives. For Doug, it is his mysterious discovery in the secret compartment of the Corvette. For Catherine, it is a business meeting with Alex Droxell at the Osprey Cove Lodge. When Catherine enters the beautiful and serene lodge, it’s as though she is entering another place and time. The lodge is an escape from the nightmare she is living back home. Follow the twists and turns of Book 1 of the Osprey Cove Lodge Series. Follow Doug and Catherine’s story to see if there is a “happily ever after” and with whom.

EXCERPT:
It appeared to Catherine as though she had just approached Mr. Darcy’s Pemberly in all its magnificence. Now she knew how Elizabeth felt at her first sighting of Pemberly. But unlike Elizabeth, Catherine thought, there would be no happy ending. This would not become her home one day, as Pemberly had become Elizabeth’s, and live happily ever after. Catherine did not covet the house that lay before her. In fact, Catherine was wealthy enough to buy a home like it, if she so desired. What Catherine did long for was what Pemberly represented to all Jane Austen lovers — the culmination of a beautiful love affair. Catherine was not naive enough to expect her life to be storybook in nature. But she did not expect her life with Doug to disintegrate into shambles just two years after marrying him. She did not understand why it was happening. She did not know how to fix it.

The Sonoran Desert in the American Southwest is a place of extremes and contrasts, of beauty and death, of independent spirits and lost souls, of fresh starts and exiles.

Three short stories, three different genres, all set in the Sonoran Desert, each with characters in exile of one form or another. One author with a unique perspective and voice.

Cordelia lives alone in a shack miles from civilization, somewhere no one can find her except for a very determined suitor. Raymond shows up every twelve years to consummate his marriage to the bride he’d claimed at her birth. Every twelve years, Cordelia fends off his unwanted advances – by killing him. The smell of death precedes his arrival each time, unless the sweet scent of a freshly fallen ‘DESERT RAIN’ masks his approach. Horror Bound magazine honored this award-winning story in its ‘Best Of 2008-2012’ edition.

Denny has lost everything in the recession. His business. His Scottsdale home on the side of a mountain with swimming pool and four-car garage. His ambition. His wife. With nothing left to lose but an injured foot, his sanity, or his life, he heads out on a hundred-mile ‘DESERT WALK’ to find Hope.

When the sun goes down and the scorching heat cools to an uncomfortable swelter, bored teenagers gather to spend the ‘DESERT NIGHTS’ out by the power lines, drinking beer, hooking up, arguing over the best rock bands of all time. Maybe shoot at some rattlesnakes and jackrabbits. Nothing could possibly go wrong here.

Wyoming Ohio is the place you move when you are ready for the quiet life — at least that’s what Penny Preston thought.

Five years ago, Penny Preston found herself divorced and alone in San Diego, CA. With only her Dachshund named Piper and the possessions she could fit in her beat up Chevy Malibu, Penny decided to take her Aunt up on her offer to move in with her in Wyoming, Ohio, and help her run her coffee shop. She never imagined her Aunt passing away or her leaving the shop to her, but that’s exactly what happened.

Besides the occasional nosy community member creating a stir around unsubstantiated gossip, life was peaceful — that’s until Penny’s life got messy… as in dead body messy. Jack Eggerton, the local dog catcher, is found dead in the back of the animal shelter Penny runs in her spare time. After a heated argument between her and Jack about a missing dog, it appears the finger is pointed directly at Penny Preston. Genre: Cookbooks, Food & Wine

FREE for a limited time

Do you wish you could cook more meals at home, but you’re too overwhelmed by life? Have you tried slow cookers in the past, and are either too confused or just not impressed by the results?

Pressure cooking has been around for centuries, but for many, the method remains a complete mystery. It was used a lot during the Great Depression, but since the era of fast and frozen food took over, pressure cooking has been mostly used in countries like India and the Middle East. It is time to bring pressure cooking back into the American mainstream and see the greatness that is being offered through electric pressure cookers, which represents the method’s shining moment.

Pressure cooking works by tightly-sealing food and liquid inside an airtight pot. The built-up pressure actually raises the boiling point of water, speeding up the cooking process. This speed preserves more of the nutritional value of food, making pressure cooking the healthiest cooking method there is. Using the electric pressure cooker is convenient, fast, and produces extremely healthy and delicious meals.

This cookbook walks you through everything you need to know about using a pressure cooker, including:

• How to use the control panel and automatic cooking programs

• How to clean the cooker

• How to troubleshoot common problems

Once you understand how the electric pressure cooker works, you can start making any of the 100+ recipes contained in the book (including Paleo and Vegan) which have been chosen specifically for their relatively short ingredient lists, simple steps, and flavor factor. You can expect to find recipes like:

• Breakfast burritos

• Orange chicken

• Smoky-maple brisket

• Stuffed flank steak

• Pork-rib stew

• Vegan black bean chili

• Chocolate-chocolate cheesecake

• Mango Cake

You don’t need to be a great chef to use an electric pressure cooker. In fact, you don’t even need to be a good one. If you can read, you can start making great meals in your pressure cooker, and build your skills from the ground up. Let this cookbook be your guide into better food and a better life.
