My living room looks like a pet store exploded. Dog toys everywhere! It’s still not enough toys for my little Casper though. He takes every single toy and attacks it like it just said something about his mother. His routine has been to wake up early with me and play for about an hour while I work. My quiet time to myself is now puppy playtime. I don’t mind so much, since he is perfectly fine to play by himself. Once in a while I look back to make sure he is alive. He is, but that little toy fox by his feet has died a thousand deaths. This morning I locked Sinny in Junebug’s crate. All Sinny has to do is stay on the couch, but nope. He insists on staying within reach of the chompy puppy and complaining when he gets chomped. Junebug wants nothing to do with this early morning play. She can’t be bothered until breakfast is served, even then its back to bed until 11:30. I like her schedule. That’s the schedule I want.

SERIOUSLY MUM, WHAT’S AN ALPACA?

Could you give up everything you have worked for and do something completely different?
Would you give up and go home if it all went wrong?

‘Seriously Mum, What’s an Alpaca?’ is the frank and charming story of a brave couple who move to Spain to breed alpacas. Their intention is to make a living, but first they must negotiate their way through the Spanish property market, local characters, rogue builders and the worst weather Andalucía has seen for 100 years. Alan and Lorna experience the joy, but also the heartbreak of alpaca breeding, picking up an assortment of stray animals on the way. Will they succeed, or will the challenges prove too much to bear?

“What an engrossing read! Leaving England and moving to Spain, I know from personal experience, is tough and certainly life-changing. But this brave couple, not only uprooted themselves, but set up an alpaca breeding farm in rural Andalucia. I laughed and cried, sharing their highs and lows, willing them to succeed. An inspiring and fascinating story” – Victoria Twead, Author of NYT bestseller Two Old Fools on a Camel and the Old Fools series.

The real Florida lies far from the interstates, where there are no dancing mice, bikini-covered beaches, or shopping malls. If you listen closely, beneath the cries of hungry gulls and the rustle of wind through the palm fronds, you might hear it whisper its secrets.

Lieutenant Evan Caldwell is a man adrift, cut loose from a life he thought he knew. His wife has lain comatose for months, and the accident that put her there has raised questions that she’s unable to answer. Now, with his wife in a nearby hospice, Evan has moved to a boat in the quiet Panhandle town of Port St. Joe, where he works as an investigator with the local sheriff’s office.

Evan’s hopes for peace and solitude are shattered when the current sheriff is found murdered. Worse, Evan’s put in the position of interim sheriff while he investigates the murder of his former boss.

Evan keeps coming up with more questions than answers; questions about what really happened in the dark privacy of the swamp, and questions about what really happened to his marriage and his wife.

As the answers begin to surface, he discovers secrets as deep and twisted as the roots of the ancient cypress trees that litter the landscape – secrets that no one wants revealed.
