The cookies have been distributed, the Christmas cards are in the mail. Now it is time to wrap presents. I did two days worth of work yesterday at my job, just so I would have a bit of free time today while the house is empty to wrap gifts without the danger of people peeking. My baby bassets did try a few times to get a peek at their gifts, but I was able to keep them under cover. Kids always think they want to know what they are getting, but they are wrong. I peeked one time when I was young and I have regretted it ever since. Now you couldn’t get me to peek if you paid me a hundred dollars. So long as the gift was worth at least one hundred dollars. If it’s worth $25, and you offered me a hundred dollars to peek, I would peek. I would then be happy with a gift and a hundred bucks.

Kumquat
by Jeff Strand
4.4 Stars (148 Reviews)
Genre: Literature & Fiction | Humor & Satire | Romance

FREE for a limited time

Thirty-five-year-old introvert Todd Bryan hasn’t really done much with his life, and he’s okay with that. Until, at a painfully bad film festival, he meets Amy Husk. She’s attractive. She’s funny. She’s quirky. And… she has an inoperable brain aneurysm and not much time to live. She may not even make it to the long-awaited final episode of EXIT RED, the Greatest. Show. Ever.

She convinces him that they should do something crazy and frivolous. And suddenly Todd, a guy who doesn’t do spontaneity, is on an insane road trip from Florida to Rhode Island with a woman he barely knows, just to visit a really cool hot dog place.

Many things will go wrong. But, hey, many things will go right, too. There’s a hook-handed hitchhiker and some property destruction. Maybe some sex. A kumquat will probably be relevant at some point, although not during the sex (if there is any).

A laugh-out-loud comedy, a touching love story, and a cross-country adventure, KUMQUAT is a story about making the most out of the time you’ve got.

If that doesn’t interest you, there’s also a gummi bear tractor.

Bonnie Kate Keller — divorced late in life, and still in shock from it — just can’t face Christmas alone in her home this year. When she fails to persuade… then pester… then guilt-trip her adult children to bring the grandchildren and come home for the holiday, she impulsively hits the highway. Bonnie’s Holiday Road Trip doesn’t start out with a specific itinerary or even destination (she was just doing it for distraction, after all), but she finds herself revisiting the scenes of her family’s happiest memories — all in a looming blizzard. Bonnie’s Christmas wish — which she had given up on — is fulfilled in a most unlikely location, proving that it’s not the place, it’s the people.
