Call me crazy. but I think my little chiweenie Junebug, made herself coffee this morning. Today she jumped out of bed as if someone threw her and ran through the house like a rocket. She was going so fast she even knocked over my poor kitty Sinny. I couldn’t keep up with her, so I did the only thing I could to get her under control long enough for Sinny to get his marbles back. I gave all the critters an early breakfast. She just finished and is now perched in her daytime bed, curled in a ball and with very wide eyes is watching me. She is in the sleeping position, but wide awake. Kinda creeping me out.

Rose Timson: A gripping wartime saga
by Marguerite Steen
Genre: Literature & Fiction | Family Life | Sagas

She accepted the dangers of a strange profession for the sake of her daughters…
Rose Timson is an unforgettable character, her good earthy humour and honesty in approach to life commanding respect from those around her, and her “hempen homespun” quality contagiously warming.

Leaving her husband at a time when divorce was more than frowned upon, Rose is determined to provide a wonderful home for her two little girls – independently and without a man.

“Human need”, says Rose, “goes beyond moral law.” On these lines, she plans her life and soon becomes a criminal…

Over thirty years leading up to the blitz of 1941, we follow the conflict between Rose’s private and professional life.

Tension is provided in her eldest daughter, Kay, in whom Rose glimpses both the sullenness of her former husband and the finesse and sensitivity left out of her own nature.

With Rose’s work taking her to the glitzy cocktail parties of London’s elite and the darker underbelly of the West End, she has no time for silly poetry and Kay’s ‘childish’ fancies.

But, as life passes rapidly by, it is through a final catastrophe that Rose comes to realise the impossibility of keeping her two separate worlds apart…

In this gripping family saga, Marguerite Steen skilfully drifts between humour and drama to build up a wonderful story of a mother’s drive to protect her girls.

I didn’t do it.

I never betrayed my friend.

Last year, I was kidnapped along with presidential candidate’s daughter Lindsay Bosworth, forced to help her assailants, my mother implicated in one of the biggest political scandals in American history.

I’ve been cleared of any wrongdoing, but that doesn’t matter. Once you’re tried by the media, you’re guilty as sin. The truth doesn’t get the public’s attention.

But shame? Shame sells.

And everyone assumes you’re tainted.

Now I have my own personal security team, courtesy of the United States government. Not the one you learned about in civics class, though.

I’m being tracked by the deep state. The shadow government. They’ve assigned Silas Gentian to be with me twenty-four seven. He thinks he knows everything about me – all of it bad — and he does.

On paper.

Like everyone else, he assumes I’m a traitor. A backstabber. A betrayer. Someone who helped a group of violent psychopaths, puppets of powerful men in Washington who made me into a tool.

Yet I see how he looks at me. True desire can’t be faked.

Or hidden.

And that goes both ways.

He assumes I’m trying to fool him.

And he might be right.

But not for the reasons he thinks.

A Shameless Little Con is the first book in the Shameless trilogy by USA Today bestselling author Meli Raine.

Deep Fire Rise
by Jon Gosch
4.8 Stars (14 Reviews)
Genre: Literary Fiction | Literature & Fiction | Science

FREE for a limited time

It is 1980 and Deputy Wilson has been banished to a backwoods district in the shadow of Mount St. Helens. His duty is to protect a humble rural populace from the miscreants and misfits who lurk at this fringe of society – an all-too-human cast of white supremacists, PCP brewers, Sasquatch hunters, and hermetic schizophrenics.

That spring the volcano awakens from its long dormancy. Earthquakes rock the locals in their beds. Plumes of ash blot out the sun. Amidst the rising threat of eruption, a horrific act of bloodshed will propel Deputy Wilson to the very flanks of the smoking volcano on a mission that blurs the line between justice and vengeance.

A genre-defying blend of mystery and history, Deep Fire Rise is also an homage to the everyday heroism of a profession so often maligned in America today. Dark yet tender, comedic yet sincere, this carefully crafted novel builds into a climax as shocking and unforgettable as the events of May 18, 1980.
