Today I am going to find out if my potato experiment in the garden paid off. I watched tons of videos about growing potatoes, and my plant acted nothing like the plants in the videos. The tops are all sad looking, and I don’t think it’s going to get any better. OH, I am such a Debbie Downer of potatoes. Meh, my plant’s are saaad. It will never be cool like the ones on TV. I think my negativity is coming from the onions. They look sad as well. Small and stupid. Stupid small onions. BWHAHA!! I guess I shouldn’t try and start a gardening show. No one would garden after my show. They would all just get sad, eat ice cream and then take naps. A bunch of depressed gardeners napping on the couch with empty ice cream cartons scattered on the floor.

Wait a Season For Their Names: A Novel of the African Painted Wolf
by Alexander Kendziorski
4.8 Stars (7 Reviews)
Genre: Literature & Fiction | Action & Adventure | Contemporary Fiction

FREE for a limited time

Life for an African Painted Wolf is a bitter struggle on the indifferent savanna of southern Africa. Aalwyn is the leader and matriarch of her pack. With a new litter of pups, she must fight for survival against threats from predators, starvation, and the ever present danger of human poachers. Every day is a desperate hunt, a defense against claw and fang, and an opportunity to teach her young how to endure in a world with no room for the wild.
Pups are in danger from the time of their birth, and they earn no name until they pass the many tests that nature has in store. These trials are arbitrary and cruel, and none are ready for the menace of scavengers, venomous snakes, and the terrors of night. The fickle bushveld demands blood, and is not particular about the source. The rest of the pack must provide for these vulnerable lives, battle cunning hyenas, evade a malevolent lion that stalks their den, and discover the intentions of a mysterious dark wolf from the north that shadows their pack.
From the great rivers of Botswana to the thirstlands of Zimbabwe and the paradise of Mozambique’s Gorongosa National Park, the painted wolf pack embarks on a trek to find a home. Their harrowing journey is set against the vast panorama of the vanishing African wild. Wait a Season For Their Names is an exploration of the dramas of the natural world, inspired by the adventure novels of Richard Adams and Jack London.

All proceeds of the sale of this book will go to wildlife conservation organizations that protect the African Wild Dog.

Uprooted: a memoir
by Maggie Coco Mignery Mignery
4.8 Stars (8 Reviews)
Genre: Biographies & Memoirs

FREE for a limited time

I love our family and the Sicilian heritage of love and support that I’ve been blessed with. It has sustained and lifted me up throughout my life, and the older I get the more I appreciate the strong foundation it gave me.

My goal in writing this memoir, lofty as it sounds, is simply to preserve the history of my immigrant grandparents’ journey to America in 1901 from the old fishing village of Cefalu on the north coast of Sicily.

It is a story often repeated in families all over America but it is our own unique story, that for many years, I have wanted to shine a light on. The book is composed of family history facts and short stories or vignettes about my own personal journey. Vignettes, according to Dr. James Birren, author of Guided Autobiography, “are like snapshots that focus on important moments in life — instants of discovery, turning points, moments of decision, basically the essence of living.”
