I’m resisting the urge to put a bunch of Christmas books in my posts, but I am growing weaker by the day. Especially since the Hallmark Channel has been running so many Christmas movies, including new ones. I love Hallmark Original Christmas movies. I am not sure what my obsession is. It is no where near Christmas, and I don’t want it to be. Hubby was quit miffed when he saw the commercials for all the upcoming Christmas movies, and the giddy look on my face. I want to enjoy the Summer heat, and work on my farmers tan in the garden. By the end of summer I look like a was put together by Dr Frankenstein. The color of my arms do not match my legs, my legs do not match my face, and the bright white of my torso is blinding. I should be concentrating more on my pumpkin patch. Sadly, but not surprisingly, it is a bit weak. I have one good plant, but when I compared it to my friend’s plants it was down right depressing. Maybe I will have some nice pumpkins for Thanksgiving. Yes, that was my plan all along, so in that case they are coming along nicely.

There had been a feeling hanging over me in the past few weeks, a feeling that change was coming. It didn’t click until that moment that change had already arrived. I was changing, things were changing, and I was finally okay – in fact, more than okay – with that.

It was flooring, the idea I was looking forward to something more in life than Tetris and being cheered on by my friends. Those things still mattered, of course, but there was more, and I was enthralled there was more.

There is nothing like a birthday to give Hamilton Dinger something to look forward to in his busy life. With his new job as a part-time intern at the Mayor’s office, being a full-time high school student and Starlight Warrior has its challenges. And although he has the full support of his girlfriend, Gwen, and his best friend, Mikey, and even a tentative partnership with Starry Knight, his ally against the Seven Deadly Sinisters, he has definite cause for concern. The arrival of SWORD, the growing demonic activity in Apollo City, and the increasingly negative media attention has sparked ongoing unrest among the city and its inhabitants.

But Hamilton has some additional help in Aletheia, a new supernatural ally, who has come to equip Hamilton for his calling to be a Starlight defender. With the help of the crew of the Meallán and its captain, St. Brendan the Navigator, and Aletheia’s sister, the Star of Time, Elysian and Hamilton set off for the Celestial Kingdom to deepen his commitment through learning, new landscapes, and cosmic surfing.

As evil forces continue in their quest for power and control, Hamilton finds uncertainty and distrust between his two worlds. Can he find the answers that will help him? Will he find the strength he needs to carry on? Will Wingdinger realize the importance of his choices, and more importantly-make the right ones?

A Harp in Lowndes Square
by Rachel Ferguson
5.0 Stars (1 Review)
Genre: Literary Fiction

FREE for a limited time

In the schoolroom in Lowndes Square, a child, in her ugly, unsuitable frock of plum-coloured satin, cut down when discarded from one of her mother’s, bent over the cutting out of a doll and its cardboard wardrobe, and shivered as she worked.

Hilarious, shocking, and heartbreaking in turn, A Harp in Lowndes Square is like no other Rachel Ferguson novel. Perhaps her most personal work – and the closest she ever came to a ghost story – it tells of Vere and James, twins gifted with ‘the sight,’ which allows them to see and even experience scenes from the past (including one, at Hampton Court, involving royalty).

The twins are already aware of their mother’s troubled relationship with her own mother, the formidable Lady Vallant, but the discovery of an Aunt Myra, who died young and of whom their mother has never spoken, leads them to uncover the family’s tragic past. Against the backdrop of World War I and Vere’s unexpected relationship with an aging actor (and his wife), and rife with Ferguson’s inimitable wit, the novel reaches a powerful and touching denouement when the twins relive the horrifying events of many years before…

A Harp in Lowndes Square was originally published in 1936. This new edition features an introduction by social historian Elizabeth Crawford.
