If I had the powers of a Jedi I am pretty sure I would not be out fighting bad guys or anything crazy like that. I know it all sounds exciting in the movies, but would you really want all of that drama in real life? No. You always see the heroes trying to live a normal life, but can’t. I would be a bit more practical. I would open up a clinic and use my powers for a more common good. I would help people stop smoking or lose weight. How about a moving company? So many possibilities. I certainly don’t have the most exciting day dreams do I? Let’s face it, fighting all those bad guys has got to get tiring, and who needs all that drama?

ADIEU, HARRY HUSBAND! BONJOUR, NOUVEAU MONDE!

A dead husband with a secret life is always a winner (fictionally speaking, of course), but what about a secret past for a special treat? In fact, a past so secret even Harry the husband didn’t know about it. That’s the delicious underpinning of this sprawling, exuberant, generous-spirited cozy mystery with a yummy side of international adventure.

It might be sadder except that once Harry dies, his widow, Merle Bennett realizes almost immediately it was no wonder she didn’t know anything about him. They’d pretty much been leading separate lives — several of them, as it turns out. Still, the will’s quite a shock. And so is an intriguing surprise — Harry left her a family home in a tiny French village. Or maybe a family home. Because who was Harry’s family? Finding out is half the fun.

Merle sets out to claim her inheritance, adolescent son in tow, and thus begins a sojourn reminiscent of A Year in Provence, or perhaps Under The Tuscan Sun all mixed up with something by Carolyn Hart, maybe, or M.C. Beaton. Because Malcouziac, Merle’s tiny Dordogne town, is the quintessential village — just perfect for a murder. And a rollicking good time.

Once Merle gets there, she finds… well, France! An unexpected romance! Mystery galore! Murder! And not just murder, but the unnerving experience of being a suspect. Once her passport is confiscated, what can she do but stay and restore her ancient battered house? While enjoying the tender attention of the unusually well-educated, handsome and… yes, quite mysterious roofer she’s hired.

Captured by Comanche as a child, Molly Hart was assumed dead. Ten years later, Texas Ranger Matt Ryan finds a woman with the same blue eyes.

Ten years have passed since Molly Hart’s ranch was attacked, her folks murdered and she was abducted. Now, at nineteen, she’s finally returning home to North Texas after spending the remainder of her childhood with a tribe of Kwahadi Comanche. What she finds is a deserted home coated with dust and the passage of time, the chilling discovery of her own gravesite, and the presence of a man she thought never to see again.

Matt Ryan is pushed by a restless wind to the broken-down remains of the Hart ranch. Recently recovered from an imprisonment that nearly ended his life, the drive for truth and fairness has all but abandoned him. For ten years he faithfully served the U.S. Army and the Texas Rangers, seeking justice for the brutal murder of a little girl, only to find closure and healing beyond his grasp. Returning to the place where it all began, he’s stunned to encounter a woman with the same blue eyes as the child he can’t put out of his mind.

A sensual historical western romance set in 1877 Texas.

As We Break

Genre: Coming of Age | Literary Fiction

Dear Reader,

Sean Pierce will tell you his story, but know that it is the story of many people. While fictional, the characters and events are rooted in true stories. These are the moments and words of friends. These are the moments and words of strangers met in passing. These are my moments and words, some I regret and some I would never change. They all taught me who I wanted to be.

I want to thank those that endured past the breaking point to become the phenomenal people that inspired this story. I want to thank those that helped me find my pieces during my own experiences. I want to thank those that broke me. Because of you, I broke free from the part of me that was trying to break other people, and I put myself back together into someone stronger.

And I want to thank you for your support. The world breaks you down. People break you down. Being broken breaks you down. Some people put themselves back together, and some don’t. Some become better than they ever were before because falling apart breaks what has been really hurting them the whole time. What everybody does at some point–what Sean can’t stop for himself or those around him–is break. Just remember that we all break, and that if we are brave enough to put ourselves back together, we can become more beautiful than we ever were before.
