No matter how much I tried to convince my sweet chickies yesterday, they would not come out of their coop. I even stepped back out of the way thinking they really must not want a pet from me this morning, but that didn’t work either. They had zero interest in coming out and nothing was going to convince them otherwise. I looked around the yard and up in the trees and saw nothing wrong, but they held their ground. It wasn’t until a few minutes had gone by that I saw the hawk fly from my neighbors tree to another one much farther away. I thought I was pretty good at spotting predators, but I had no clue he was there. For a flock that has never been attacked by any animals of any kind their instincts were spot on. It was kinda amazing.

Ash Rashid is a former homicide detective who can’t stand the thought of handling another death investigation. In another year, he’ll be out of the department completely. That’s the plan, at least, until his niece’s body is found in the guest home of one of his city’s most wealthy citizens. The coroner calls it an overdose, but the case doesn’t add up. Against orders, Ash launches an investigation to find his niece’s murderer, but the longer he searches, the more entangled he becomes in a case that hits increasingly close to home. If he doesn’t solve it fast, his niece won’t be the only family member he has to bury.

Fifty-year-old Bill Harness is on a strange but seemingly benign journey, rambling across the country in an old Pontiac and leaving large anonymous checks with promising young opera singers. His fuel, however, is sorrow, and it isn’t until he arrives in Seattle and befriends Gabriella Compton, a phenomenally talented soprano, that he is able to address the three great tragedies of his vocally gifted family. An intensely musical tale from the award-winning author of The Popcorn Girl and Operaville.

Twelve keys, one secret. Odin and his twelve sons guard the secret to prolonging human life. The secret, kept deep in a vault in Ragnorok, can only be revealed when humans stop intentionally killing one another. Twelve humans hold the keys to open the vault, but during centuries of complacency, Odin has lost track of the keyholders. Two keyholders now remain, and Odin awakens to their existence. Can Odin and his sons protect the last two keyholders, or will Loki, Odin’s greatest rival, destroy everything Odin holds dear and seize control of Ragnorok? ***Please note: While this book contains references to Norse Gods, the author has altered some of the names of Gods, events, and place names (e.g., in the original tales, Ragnarok is a series of events including a battle, in ‘Twe12ve’, Ragnorok is a place.)
