I watched a video today that shows a man breaking into a restaurant, but instead of stealing money or anything, he instead pours himself a drink and makes himself a cheeseburger. He is a real life Hamburgler (not my joke, this is just a fact). I was thinking to myself that in the movies or on TV this would seem normal and even cool. In real life it is a bit off. Is it weird that my first thought is he must be a secret agent who believes he is above the law and can do cool stuff like this? Maybe a time-traveler and he will never be caught because he is from the future. That would make sense to me. I think I am reading too many of these books I post.

A mysterious disappearance sparks a painful investigation into the family’s past.

On a sunny afternoon, Maya, a couple’s therapist who researches the secrets of memory, disappears. One moment she is on the beach, with her husband and three children, enjoying their holiday stay at her parents’ kibbutz. When her son waves a camera at her, crying “Mommy, smile!”, Maya suddenly feels a stab. She turns her back and walks away. “Mommy will be right back,” promises her husband to their three children, and to his older child from previous marriage, who surprisingly does not seem worried about Maya’s disappearance to the sliest bit. By noon, whispers are heard in the guesthouse dining room that one of the guests has gone missing. Security officers are called to investigate, as fears and rumors spread. Was it kidnap? Was it suicide? Was she the ‘happy woman’ she appeared to be? What shadows lay pray behind her ‘happy family’? Why does her husband refuse to involve the police? The search reveals sides of Maya and her family, never exposed before. There, at the pastoral landscape of her childhood, the story drifts back to the Yom Kippur War, when the father Maya never knew was killed. The man who didn’t want her, the man who said to her mother, “Everything will be fine, just smile.”

Family secrets unfold into a grasping drama, full of mystery and suspense. Suspense, emotion and insight are skillfully weaved in this contemporary drama, written by one of Israel’s finest authors.

Death on Alder: Lee Harding Mystery Book One
Beth Everett
5.0 Stars (22 Reviews)
Genre: Action & Adventure | Mystery

Take a trip that’s a little bit Nancy Drew, a dash Cheech and Chong and, and just enough Streets of San Francisco to make you want to hop on a cable car.

Lee Harding can’t find happiness in the harsh east coast winters. A trip to her hometown of San Francisco is meant to lift her spirits. She stays with her sister Alice’s home at the Twenty Alder compound, a tiny courtyard with five separate apartments. The residents are scurrying to prepare for their landlord Martha’s birthday celebration. The courtyard is lit with strings of lights, the bar is ready and lanterns are being hung on the enormous oak trees. When Lee is in New Jersey, she does nothing but dream of moving back to San Francisco, but this trip is proving that you cannot go home again. There seems to be new buildings everywhere, and the funky city of her past is getting harder and harder to find. Bohemian Landlord Martha Byrne represents all that is loved about old San Francisco. When she is murdered in her apartment after her party, Lee is determined to figure out which of the tenants is responsible. The detective on the case is a started and pressed cop named Erik Healy. Lee’s position as a guest in the compound gives her unfettered access to the politics that go on between the tenants at Twenty Alder Street. She shares her concerns with the detective and soon the two have formed a friendship that has a little too much heat. Lee is reading Hemingway’s, A Moveable Feast and decides that the author died full of regret. She keeps this in mind as she toys with the idea of something further with Erik Healy. The Harding sisters distract themselves from the grim mood at the apartment house by touring their old haunts. The scars from their tragic childhood have left them with painful wounds, and they find lighthearted relief in weed and alcohol. It seems just about everyone in the complex has a motive for wanting Martha dead, but no one more than the hot headed Miles Alcazar. Just when Lee is sure the man is responsible, he turns up dead. Someone is taking out the residents one by one and she fears her sister Alice could be next. Death on Alder is a love letter to San Francisco, sisterhood and the myth of home.

The Heavenly Grille Café
J. T. Livingston
4.8 Stars (19 Reviews)
Genre: Religion & Spirituality | Religious & Inspirational Fiction

FREE for a limited time

Amanda Turner is a young woman who has recently lost everything: her parents, her home, and her job. She packs all of her belongings into her old car and drives north from Tampa, FL for several hours until she comes upon an out-of-the-way restaurant, accentuated by a huge golden halo instead of the more well-recognized golden arches. The Heavenly Grille Café is operated by three angels who take Amanda under their wings (no pun intended): Max was once a Roman Gladiator; Bertie was a loud and boisterous housewife who died unexpectedly in 1911, leaving behind a husband and two children; and Doug was a strong, handsome soldier who died serving his country in 1953. Amanda meets another young woman, Kris DeVone, who is completely opposite to herself in character and personality. While Amanda is a happy, secure Christian with tremendous faith, Kris has done everything in her power to be the ultimate “bad” girl, and does not believe in God. Amanda befriends Kris, who is seven months pregnant and has been abandoned by her live-in boyfriend. The women become best friends and move in together so that Amanda can help take care of the baby girl, Charlotte Grace, who is born in September 2011. By the time Christmas rolls around, both of their worlds have been turned upside down with the shocking kidnapping of Charlotte Grace. The next two months provide insight into Kris’ eventual relationship with God, the angels’ inability to change destiny, and a look into the lives of the kidnappers, Jack and Susan Peterson, and the reason behind why they committed such a horrible crime.

Who doesn’t love facts and random bits of information? “I did not know that” or “Teach me something I don’t know!” are commonly heard phrases among people today. Along with this, the most powerful driving force behind our random browsing of the Internet or Social Media is the pursuit of new information. This brings me to the reason why I wrote 101 Creepy, Weird, Scary, Interesting, and Outright Cool Facts. Here are some categories you will receive facts from in this book: • Plants and Nature • Computers and Technology • History • Science, math and space • Urban legends.

Did you know that sea cucumbers are a class of invertebrate marine animals which inhabit almost every sea in the world? Their bodies can regenerate at an exceptionally fast rate, which allows them to regrow organs that were completely lost. As such, they have developed a defensive mechanism where they throw out their intestines – and sometimes even more internal organs – when they are attacked by predators. This is just one of the facts you’ll learn in this book. If you’re ready for more, start reading now.
