Hubby ate the last of the pumpkin pie and I am a bit pissy. There were two pieces left and they were supposed to be for the kids. I am very upset. We agreed they would be for the baby bassets. I wasn’t actually going to give them to the kids though. I was going to eat one piece and that would mean hubby would then get to claim the very last piece for himself,  and so he couldn’t get mad that I went against our original agreement. Of course I was also planning on asking him if he wanted the very last piece at a time when I know he wouldn’t want it, therefore securing the very last piece for me without a fight or guilt. Unfortunately he messed up my plans and ate both pieces in the middle of the night. This is why our marriage works. We are two peas in a pod.

After becoming orphaned and surviving the fall of the Confederate States, August Rowan is adopted by his uncle, a crippled former gunslinger turned gunsmith. After attempting to put his personal losses and a Confederate government secret behind him, August’s path puzzlingly crosses that of an eccentric black man named Cato Tucker. Their respective knowledge of the past melds into a joint effort to understand what became of the Confederate Republic’s gold. Their journey takes them west to Nevada’s mining towns, as their search for the Confederate gold’s location intensifies. But reality is not what August originally thought it was. In fact, it’s far more complicated. With their growing friendship, Cato as the mentor and August as the protégé, they struggle to survive in a dangerous new environment. After several missteps with peculiar locals, they find themselves pursued by a racist sheriff and his posse who will only be satisfied once August and Cato are both hanged. But is Cato truly who he claims to be or does he lack the moral character that August originally thought he had? Will the search for the lost gold lose its appeal when a gang of infamous outlaws joins in the search for the very same gold? Or are the perplexing circumstances around the gold too much for August and Cato to piece together before their own deaths are added to the mystery?

For hundreds of years they were the weapons of kings. Now they work for themselves on the world’s behalf. But who is going to save them when a forgotten enemy returns?

No other organization has had a greater impact on history through the lives they’ve saved and the lives they’ve taken. They are an extraordinary family whose quiet interventions in the world’s affairs have had important ramifications for centuries. But every family has its drama… Claire DuMont has been estranged from the family for the last five years, surviving on her own as an independent contractor. On Tuesday, she arrives in Dallas on an assignment for a detestable mob boss. During her one night in town, she unexpectedly falls in love with an ordinary man who is willing to do something very surprising to catch her attention. That same day, her brother Julian pilots a dilapidated boat into Galveston harbor. As he attempts to carry out his own mission at a seedy waterfront bar that is being monitored by law enforcement and a South American drug cartel, he meets a beautiful waitress who is not what she seems. Meanwhile, their cousin Tait is attempting to finally become a family agent by hunting down a well-protected criminal. When his first real mission nearly ends in disaster, it’s up to the heads of the American family to decide his fate before Tait’s father, the head of the European family, arrives and causes havoc. The events of this day will begin an explosive chain reaction that will put in jeopardy the fate of fifteen-year-old Abbey, the DuMonts’ greatest hope for the future, who is about to begin her own harrowing journey that will lead her to the startling truth about the family.
