Poor hubby had to bring down all my Halloween totes from the attic. A job he hates almost as much as when he has to put all the Halloween totes back up in the attic. I cleaned the garage out on Sunday, just to give myself room to make a complete mess with all these decorations. I swear each year I am going to start throwing stuff away, but I find myself unable to part with cute things like the melamine plates my baby bassets used so many years ago, or the decorations I haven’t used in five years, but I’m sure I will use again. I better figure it out soon. I just added a tiny haunted town to the pile. Oh dear.

A beautiful, razor-sharp story of love and spiritual conflict set against the raw and vibrant human landscape of Jaffa.

Adon, an ascetic en route to make the last payment on a cheap apartment, comes upon a violent crime about to take place. Acting on impulse and with no other moral choice, he gives all of his money to a pimp to save the life of a prostitute, Lili. Instead of gratitude, Lili attacks Adon about his motives, and eventually, Shuki, the pimp and drugged-out gangster, enters unwelcome into Adon’s life. Adon, Lili, and Shuki play out their dangerous dance of life in the salty air in front of the sweeping variety of Jaffa’s human fabric: owners and residents of cafés, large families, Catholic and Greek Orthodox monks, superstitious fishermen, a business owner and an unwilling mistress. Life in all its complexity plays out between Adon and Lili, especially as Lili begins to see the goodness in life after a brutal existence so far. The tension rises from page to page as Shlomo Kalo weaves another marvelously written and realistic fictional tapestry packed with insights into the darker side of life, as well as a soul lifting depiction of people struggling to make a difference – or who are just getting by on their wits and love of each other. In LILI, from pain and conflict comes hope and salvation.

The Pakistan Conspiracy, A Novel of Espionage, is a suspenseful Al Qaeda terror thriller that charts a conspiracy against the human race in the months following Osama Bin Laden’s capture and death in 2011. In this riveting CIA espionage fiction, Al Qaeda terrorists loyal to Ayman al-Zawahiri seek for and find a retired Russian colonel who is willing to sell them a portable tactical nuclear weapon. They are then faced with the seemingly insurmountable task of transporting the bomb in stealth and secrecy to a destination in the West, preferably in the United States. Kate Langley — an attractive, young and ambitious CIA officer based in Pakistan — puts her life on the line to preclude AQ from pulling off this horrific terror event. And now this taut nuclear espionage spy thriller quickly evolves into a race against time set on three continents. The CIA spy thriller opens in the tension-fraught days in May 2011 right after SEAL Team Six invaded Abbottabad, Pakistan, to deal ruthlessly with OBL. Kate Langley is tethered to a desk at the American Embassy in Islamabad, longing for more dangerous work in the field. Though she had little to do with the SEAL actions in Abbottabad, Kate finds herself “PNG’d” by the Pakistani Foreign Ministry — declared persona non grata in the euphemistic language of diplomacy — for “activities incompatible with diplomatic status,” code words for having been outed as a spy.

In April of 1959, 13 year old Daniel Cringle moved with his family from London to Edinburgh. Daniel’s father was a “very important man” at the Regents Bank of Scotland, so the Cringles were provided a house at Number 42 Calton Row. When Daniel Cringle moved to this address, everything changed. His voice began to crack, hair began to grow in strange places, and he was forced to wage constant low intensity war on acne and blemishes. These were things that he could handle, though. It was the other changes that made him worry. He began to feel unnaturally strong, and his mind seemed to flex its muscles in ways that he had never imagined. He became aware of beings that no one else seemed to notice… and he was pretty sure that he could levitate. Was he going crazy? Daniel was not the only one to notice the changes. Unbeknownst to him, there was an ancient creature deep beneath Number 42 Calton Row. The creature had lied dormant for millennia, but now it was awake… and hungry. Above ground, mysterious agents, whose allegiances he could not know, began to weave themselves into Daniel’s life. They spoke of good and evil, truth and lies, Order and Disorder. He was being pushed toward a choice that could either set the stage for the rest of his life or destroy everyone he loved. Would he make the right choice?
