How many faeries is too many fairies? My youngest basset last night was crying because he was afraid he would have the same nightmare about Frankenstein as he did the night before. Apparently his older brother told him that there are good dream and bad dream fairies. I was a little freaked out by the thought of being visited in the middle of the night by a bad dream faerie. What kind of jerk faerie would do that to a child? Why wouldn’t a good dream faerie just follow this evil faerie and undo all it’s work? I told my youngest basset it had nothing to do with faeries and it was just the stress of starting school again. Sometimes I think reality is so much more comforting.

WELCOME TO THE RUSHMORE INN

The bed and breakfast was hidden in the hills of West Virginia. Wary guests wondered how it could stay in business at such a creepy, remote location. Especially with its bizarre, presidential decor and eccentric proprietor.

ONCE YOU CHECK IN…

When the event hotel for the national Iron Woman triathlon accidentally overbooked, competitor Maria was forced to stay at the Rushmore. But after checking into her room, she quickly realized she wasn’t alone. First her suitcase wasn’t where she put it. Then her cell phone was moved. Finally, she heard an odd creaking under the bed. Confusion quickly turned to fear, and fear to hysteria when she discovered the front door was barred and the windows were bricked over. There was no way out. …

YOU’LL BE DYING TO LEAVE

One year later, four new female athletes have become guests of the Inn. Will they escape the horrors within its walls? Or will they join the many others who have died there, in ways too terrible to imagine?

High Heels & 18 Wheels: Confessions of a Lady Trucker

Genre: Biographies & Memoirs

FREE for a limited time

Barbara T. Cecchini (Bobbie to her friends) is a girl from Philly who overcomes a series of personal horrors, four failed marriages and one of the most painful illnesses in the medical lexicon. In a harrowing introduction, written by bestselling author Roger Radford, we learn of appalling childhood abuse at the hands of her mother, and, later, her discovery of the battered body of her murdered father, a man she hardly knew. Murder and mayhem continue to haunt Bobbie when she joins the United States Army, firstly in the carnage that is Vietnam, where she serves as a medical specialist, and later when a knife-wielding killer runs amok at her base in Ft Sheridan, Illinois. But first and foremost, High Heels is the story of Bobbie’s adventures on the road as a lady trucker. It is written in her own words. After raising five kids, and at the age of forty-two, she decides to become a truck driver, finding true freedom through guiding eighteen-wheelers the length and breadth of America. She may have been doing a man’s job, but she was determined to hold on to her femininity. Thus the locker in the driver’s cabin always contained a pair of red stilettos, just in case there was an opportunity to go dancing. Bobbie tells of the fascinating characters she meets with a feisty humor that even rape on the road and a life-changing illness fail to quash. In a kaleidoscope of escapades, we meet Craw Daddy the cagey Cajun, Dollar Bill, Mud Flap, Lot Lizards and even the Man Who Never Was. Co-author Roger Radford is a former Associated Press correspondent in the Middle East and the author of three published thrillers. High Heels and 18 Wheels is an unforgettable tale of triumph over adversity – from the seedy bars of Philly to the highways and byways of America.

“We’ve got gypsies!” Old Grimsy, Marsden-Lacey’s cantankerous town gossip, warns the patrons of The Traveller’s Inn one golden autumn afternoon. Soon, the quaint Yorkshire village is playing host to a family of exotic Romanis, three colorful narrowboats, and a rough bunch of Russian mafiosos who’ll stop at nothing to get their hands on a royal treasure lost to time. Martha Littleword and Helen Ryes find themselves up to their necks in chasing mobsters, running from Russians, inciting ghostly visitations and wreaking havoc in their love lives. Chief Johns has his work cut out for him keeping the villagers from rioting, corralling two adventure loving Southern girls and investigating the frightful deaths of two innocent women who knew too much. For good measure, Martha and Helen will throw in some sassiness, mix well with laughter, and add three heaping helpings of love from two cats and one fearless canine hero, Amos. It’s mystery and high jinks that only two Southern women can pull off with fun, flair and the occasional bowl of jambalaya served cajun style.
