I had a great dream last night that I was Maleficent. I didn’t look like Angelina Jolie, but I had the cool hat. I worked so darn hard to turn into a dragon, but I was a complete failure at that. I tried running fast, but just as I am in real life, I was slow as a slug. I think my dream was a sign. My partner in crime and I need to be Maleficent and her dragon for Halloween. I of course will be the dragon. I sure as heck don’t want to wear that dress. A pudgy dragon I will be. I will need the extra space for all of my candy.

Caitlin wants to help Fox get the job, but that entails pretending they’re a couple, which means sharing a room. And that’s never going to end well. Treats to Tempt You, Book 4. A fun and sexy “marriage of convenience” romance.

Fox Wilde loves working at Aqua Blue, his seafood restaurant in Doubtless Bay, New Zealand. But when he lands an interview for head chef at the famous Rutland’s Restaurant in Auckland, the opportunity to work at the exclusive hotel is too good to turn down. At the interview, the head of the family-run firm makes his old-fashioned standards very clear. Put on the spot, Fox mistakenly invents a fiance, and then compounds the problem by giving the name of his sexy but volatile friend, Caitlin. Now, Fox has to work out how to convince Caitlin to go along with the ruse and come with him to meet the Rutlands on Halloween. The last thing on Caitlin Baker’s mind is a long term relationship.

After years of putting up with a strict father and a jealous, possessive ex, she’s desperate for some freedom and independence. So when the impertinent Fox announces their sudden engagement, she’s tempted to tell him to stick it where the sun doesn’t shine. But Caitlin has a secret. She’s had a thing for Fox since the first time she met him, ten years ago, at another Halloween costume party. Fox doesn’t remember her, luckily, as her father ended their steamy clinch with a thermonuclear meltdown from which Fox barely escaped with his life. She feels she owes him. But that entails pretending they’re a couple, which means sharing a room. And that’s never going to end well.

Warning: Contains fireworks. Read with caution — preferably while wearing safety goggles. Adults only.

Genre: Teen & Young Adult | Travel

This is one of the best books available about life for both expat residents and natives in villages and cities across Mexico. What sets it apart from most other books about living in Mexico is that it’s a literary collection of short stories and essays, full of insights by contemporary authors who write and live full time in Mexico or who have spent a lot of time living in the country. The superb collection contains works by twenty-two authors, all but five of whom live full time in the country. Their writing spans a variety of topics; many contributions extol life in Mexico’s abundant sunlight while others examine what the shadows sometimes obscure. It’s a sampler of sorts, with active hyperlinks for more information about the authors and their other writing. The anthology contains complete chapters from books and also single pieces from internationally-acclaimed authors and emerging writers: Bruce Berger, E.G. Brady, Ann Hazard, Michael Hogan, Jim Johnston, William Kaliher, Janice Kimball, Judy King, Jeanine Kitchel, David Lida, C.M. Mayo, Carol M. Merchasin, Mikel Miller, Katie O’Grady, Antonio Rambles, Daniel Reveles, Robert Richter, Lin Robinson & Ana Maria Corona, John Scherber, Jennifer Stace, James Tipton, and Candelora Versace. Perhaps the best way to gain valuable insights about the day-to-day life of people in a foreign country is to read good books by authors living and/or writing in that country. The purpose of this book is to identify several writers who can help readers accomplish this for Mexico. Enjoy!

Clémentine’s Uncommon Scents
Jocelyne Lebon
4.8 Stars (13 Reviews)
Genre: Literary Fiction | Contemporary Fiction

FREE for a limited time

Have you ever been hijacked? By your nose, that is? Have you ever been, at a mere whiff, snatched and catapulted into a time of remembered bliss? Or remembered grief? What if your nose was a veritable time machine transporting and immersing you, mind, body and soul into a past long gone yet as exquisitely vivid as the present? On the surface, there is nothing remarkable about Clémentine’s nose: it has only two nostrils and sits roughly in the middle of her face. Yet when it is discovered that the six-year old has in fact the nose of a bloodhound, it soon converts her into a force to be reckoned with in the small hamlet where she is growing up. Is she angel or beast? Her bizarre attribute garners her praise but also subjects her to taunts and insults, until a searing humiliation brings her ambivalence to a tipping point, and upon reaching puberty she makes a decision which will change the course of her life by a few latitudes. How she handles and resolves her strong ambivalence is developed in this olfactory odyssey, a sensuous tale with comedy, drama, and romance, drenched in fragrant magic realism.
