One thing I had always imagined is, in Heaven, bunnies hopped freely everywhere. Yes, just like the opening scene in the Teletubbies, but without the creepy baby-faced sun. Well… this campground we were at this weekend was a slice of heaven for me. The petting zoo obviously couldn’t contain the bunnies and they did an incredible job of multiplying. We are talking a major outbreak! Bunnies EVERYWHERE! It was awesome. It got a little creepy at night though. If you needed to go outside for any reason in the wee hours of the morning, you would find yourself walking down an eerily quiet, dimly lit path that were heavily fogged over. Through the fog you would see the silhouettes of hundreds of bunnies silent and still, watching every step you took. Don’t you dare stop walking. They are watching. Always…..watching.

The Dangerous Thaw of Etta Capstone
Karen J. Hasley
4.6 Stars (245 Reviews)
Genre: Westerns | Romance

FREE for a limited time

“Revenge is very good eaten cold” For most people food serves a purpose and the purpose isn’t complicated. You eat it. But for Etta Capstone it’s not that simple. An excellent cook and the owner of a successful restaurant on the Texas frontier, she’s had years to perfect other uses for food besides the obvious. Food as shield. As wall. As love letter. As peace offering. Food as life — well, half a life, anyway. Etta’s not like other women. She’s been frozen in the past, frozen heart and soul for a long time, captive to memories of unbearable violence. Until suddenly, with the sighting of the man she holds responsible for her painful history, Etta begins to consider the possibility of a more satisfying future. She knows that with a good cooking fire and the steady heat of a patient man’s love, a lot of things are possible — even change, even happiness — and to her way of thinking, all that stands in the way of a bright future is one wicked man, one necessary execution, and lessons in good penmanship. So as a woman used to creating dishes from diverse and rare ingredients, Etta concocts a deadly recipe using just those elements. She knows better than most that life offers few guarantees, and if all it takes to free her from the past is one wicked man, one necessary execution, and lessons in good penmanship, she’ll take the risk and make the effort, no matter who gets burned. Because after years of keeping the fires of love and the warmth of hope at a distance, Etta Capstone is finally ready to thaw.

Kevin and I in India (Frank’s Travel Memoir Series, Book 2)
Frank Kusy
4.1 Stars (204 Reviews)
Genre: Humor & Entertainment | Travel

FREE for a limited time

Acclaimed as one of the funniest and true to life stories ever written about India, this ‘diary of disaster’ became an instant bestseller upon publication in 1986, and remains a firm favourite with readers today.

When Frank and Kevin first met in an empty Arab airport lounge on their way to India in January 1985, it was the beginning of a friendship which would take them together across the length and breadth of the Indian sub-continent, ending up in the foothills of the Himalayas in Nepal. ‘Kevin and I in India’ is the unexpurgated, often outrageous, diary of their travels – from the hill-stations of the deep south to the Taj Mahal in the north, from the Goan beaches of the west to the sacred Ganges and the Bodhi Tree in the east. Full of anecdotes, observations and travellers’ tales, the two Englishmen weave a crazy, erratic path through a variety of adventures and misadventures, in constant battle against officialdom, insects, heat, dust, ticket-queues and mad traffic. Here is the real India – stripped of illusion, but adorned with humour and exuberance. Here is a kaleidoscopic potpourri of fascinating sights, scenes and people, with each day of the journey more exciting, more packed with incident, than the last.

All the Roads That Lead From Home
Anne Leigh Parrish
4.6 Stars (19 Reviews)
Genre: Contemporary Fiction | Short Stories | Women’s Fiction

FREE for a limited time

“Anne Leigh Parrish has written a collection of stories that deserve a place on the shelf next to Raymond Carver, Tom Boyle, Richard Bausch, and other investigators of lives gone wrong. Parrish writes with painful clarity about marriages turned sour, children at war with their parents, women drifting from one damaging relationship to another, and about unexpected acts of generosity-an impoverished woman giving her battered piano to a priest who had befriended her, a schoolgirl who bribes a boy to pretend an interest in an overweight classmate, then finds that her kindness has disastrous consequences. These are potent and artful stories, from a writer who warrants attentive reading.” – C. Michael Curtis, Fiction Editor, The Atlantic Monthly
