Two Odd Crimes – Episode #1 – Ted and Heidi Get to Know Each Other

Etienne Baleau and his wife Veronique must solve two odd crimes to keep slavers from stealing teenage girls in America and selling them on the human trafficking market. The first crime puts Ted Miner and Heidi Miflin, employees of an art gallery who barely know each other, on a wooden chair, naked, and facing each other, intertwined. They’re left all night in that position.

There’s no reason for the crime. They like each other and would have been intimate eventually. Heidi’s father works as a cop in Dubai and locks up criminals who sell other people. Ted’s father is a diplomat in the Mid-East. That might have something to do with it.

The second crime happens in Santa Monica, California. Slavers run beauty contests to kidnap teenage girls who are sold to Mid-Eastern sheiks. There’s no reason for the crime. India, Pakistan and the countries from the former Soviet Union can provide all the slaves they want. Enforcement of laws against sex trafficking is much less rigorous in those countries. Why bring the massive might of the United States military and law enforcement into the business?

Etienne and Veronique know someone is using the odd crimes to distract them from something much bigger. The Army gives them two more agents. Matt Southern and Rhonda Downs, former Marines with special ops training. Matt and Rhonda follow intel from a decoded message to Europe. They expect the trail to go to the Middle East. Instead, it takes them to a resort in Wales and puts them on a gondola ride to an early death. Halfway up the mountain, the gondola stops. Their surprise turns to terror when a sniper uses a high powered rifle to punch holes in the gondola. The gondola won’t move. The bullets keep coming. The sniper gets closer and closer with every shot.

Back in the United States, Etienne and Veronique follow new intelligence to a supposedly empty house. It’s not empty. Cages full of teenage girls line the walls, and men with automatic weapons attack them.

It’s a long journey for the team. Anything that begins with forced intimacy and kidnapping is going to be interesting and dangerous.
