I wonder how often authors get chewed out by readers for killing off characters they have grown to love. A friend of mine wrote a great science fiction novel and gave me an advanced copy to read. Within the first few chapters I fell in love with a character and was very excited to read about the adventures they would go on. Then he killed him. ARG!!! The next day, dropping off our kids at school I told him he was a terrible man. He laughed. I laughed. But I was actually pissy about it. Still kinda am.

Mia James almost had it all…

At 30, she was a successful photographer with the craziest, but most loyal friends in the world and a wonderful life in a picturesque village. The only thing missing was the husband and a brood of kids. Love happens when you least expect it, her mom always said.

An appointment to show her photography portfolio brought her front and center with Jack Barnes, a gorgeous, successful, Manhattan businessman. Mia was smitten and they married less than a year later. Unfortunately, the marital bliss she craved never showed up.

Jack, the controlling, absentee husband had a secret. Someone else was occupying his mind and bed. A chance sighting revealed the real Jack with his mystery woman.

Payback was definitely in order and way overdue. With a little help from her friends and a lot of Merlot, Mia was on a mission to take Jack down.

Hilarious speed bumps, hiccups and crazy calamities along the way, turned her ridiculous plot into unexpected friendships and a possible chance at real love.

Payback and a Bottle of Merlot is the first romantic comedy novel in this contemporary romance series. Like Sisters is a laugh out loud series of best friends, hot guys and the right amount of steam to have you anxiously waiting for the next book.

Note: There are no cliffhangers in this series, but since the characters carry over, the books are best read in sequence.

Oliver Jones is the most dangerous man in the world.

At least, someone out there believes he is. Oliver himself thought he was one of the world’s duller men, working as a financial analyst in San Francisco by day and eating microwave dinners by himself every night. That was until he befriended a stray cat, and then one lonely night the cat began to speak to him.

Now Oliver is on the run, hunted by an inhuman assassin whose client believes Oliver is the “Destroyer of Worlds.” His only hope for survival rests with a trio of unlikely new allies: A werewolf with a fondness for Hawaiian shirts, an emotionless little girl who is much, much older than she appears, and a genocidal gunfighter with a serious anger management problem.

And there’s that talking cat, of course. But that’s a little harder to explain…

The year is 1929, and a tallman freak named Kahlil has returned home from a long sojourn to the traveling carnival sideshow in which he and his dwarf brother Heinrich grew up as adopted orphans. The fantastic caravan boasts a menagerie of talent, from a limbless ‘Human Cannonball’ to a three-legged foot juggler. A high-wire husband and wife act performs death-defying trapeze stunts that boggle the imagination and a fortune teller sees into the past and future with her third eye, literally. Three bearded triplet sisters preen for attention alongside an unbelievably hairy strongman while two-headed twins perform mentalist feats. A half-man half-fish mutant floats aloof from the world in his aquarium for gaping onlookers while a veiled dancer sinuously twirls behind her barely concealing gauze. And still many more await in the shadows…

But times are rough. Desert life is unforgiving, where any faint hope is soon covered in dust to rot in the mind, a half-remembered memory. And yet, things are about to change for the worse in ways that none of the performers could have imagined. Something dark and monstrous comes, creeping toward them and spreading its oily wings and talons large enough to engulf them all. Kahlil and Heinrich will dig deep into their unknown past, facing their weaknesses and temptations to find the answers that may be their salvation, or destruction.

Come one, come all, come fall, for Mr. Carnival’s Traveling Sideshow!
