During the week I usually like to eat well. It makes me feel less guilty when I go hog wild on the weekends. Yesterday I found myself at the grocery store and decided to pick up a box of Lucky Charms for the weekend. Now it’s all I can think about. I can hear it calling for me from the cupboard. The sugar free jello in the refrigerator tries to yell louder to help me out, but it is weak compared to the marshmallowy goodness of sugar cereal. The worst part is the kids know about the Lucky Charms and I am worried they will eat them all. I hate sharing.

“A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”

The freedom to defend oneself against all enemies, foreign and domestic, is the very definition of liberty. America’s Founding Fathers went to great lengths to ensure this right wasn’t infringed upon by future lawmakers. Still, to this day, politicians seem determined to undermine that freedom. Once that right is stripped away from the American People, freedom as we know it will cease to exist.

Stealing Second takes a look into future America, an unarmed America, where unmanned drones rule the skies and UN troops police the population. Across the country, detention camps spring up like weeds. Americans are given two weeks to turn in their firearms. But those who believe Americans will easily give up their arms have another thing coming. Washington only succeeds in angering the American People and the country plunges into a second revolutionary war. With the odds stacked heavily against them, Americans fight back to preserve their liberty.

Like many Americans, Gary Smith trusts the government to make his decisions for him. He lives in a world of self-imposed apathy, blissfully ignorant, and determined to remain so. Slowly, the blinders are removed from his eyes. Gary wakes up to find that the world he knows has suddenly changed. Too late, he realizes that he was part of the problem. Desperate to take back what has been stolen from him, Gary joins a group of likeminded individuals in a last-gasp effort to turn back the hands of time.

Powerfully written and uniquely entertaining, this timely tale is a story that begs to be read. However you feel about gun control, whatever side of the proverbial aisle you stand, Stealing Second is an important work of fiction. A plausible scenario that all Americans should consider before allowing our politicians to dismantle the Second Amendment.

There’s nothing like a knock on the door at 3:00 a.m. to change your life forever. Gus Moore discovers how true this is when his ex-girlfriend blows in on an icy January night just long enough to dump “his problem” on the couch. From indolent single slob to competent single parent, Gus’s metamorphosis over the next six years is astonishing.

All is going swimmingly for Gus and his son, Sam, until two women complicate their lives: Sarah, with whom Gus has an unsatisfactory friends-with-benefits relationship, and Maureen, his son’s bipolar mother, who has decided she wants back into her child’s life. Maureen’s illness is a subtextual presence that eventually steers the course of the novel.

Sunflowers, which takes its name from the Van Gogh studies of the same, will appeal to a wide spectrum of contemporary fiction readers. Refreshingly, Gus does not have the stereotypical Mr. Mom awkwardness of being a single parent (although he does “outsource the Jesus stuff” to the mother across the street), and there is no predictable “happy couple works it out” ending.

“In order to take control of your health I recommend you make an attempt to grow your own food the Beyond Organic way.”–Jordan Rubin, NMD, PhD, NY Times Bestselling Author, Founder–Garden of Life

“Any type of food produced on fully mineralized soil in proper balance contains much more nutrition.I’m not talking here about the insignificant 20 percent more nutrient density that the organic farming industry claims their fruits and vegetables have when compared to conventionally grown stuff; I’m talking about 200 to 300 percent more nutritional content, which is possible to achieve by going beyond what most people think of as ‘organically grown.’In case you don’t realize the benefits from taking in several times more nutrition than the average person gets today, the reasons why you should are explained in plain talk (and unobtrusively documented with peer-reviewed publications) by Dr. Bogs, a soil-health consultant. Her book will make you stand up and demand nutrient-dense food.”–Steve Solomon, author of The Intelligent Gardener
