I had a horrible dream about our Elf on The Shelf, Sanual. It was so vivid and ultra creepy. In my dream I would see him move around and pop up in crazy places. He even did that creepy slow head turn that you see dolls do in horror movies. It’s gonna take me a bit to shake that dream. errrrg

What these tourists do not know… and what the long time locals do know… is that all the stories and rumors about The Demon Isle are true!
But no magical hot spot can go unprotected! And neither does The Demon Isle, which has been under the watchful care of the Howard Witches since its inception. But protecting the island from its magical inhabitants and intruders can prove hard on a normal day, and today, is not one of those days! As the sheriff of The Demon Isle needs help solving a murder, one she fears is magical in nature.
Michael Howard, a death reader, along with Charlie Howard (a little more than human) set off to help the sheriff of The Demon Isle solve this mystery when they meet a damsel in distress that turns out to be more than she appears.
Meanwhile, their sister, Melinda, gifted with prophetic dreams, races against the clock to save the life of a dear family friend, currently haunted by a malevolent spirit in search of a body to possess. Melinda’s powers alone, however, will not be enough. She will need both of her brothers to save this friend’s life and banish this spirit.
But when the moment comes to save her, they find the siblings suddenly have an unexpected choice to make: allow the possession, which might harm if not kill their friend, or to banish the spirit before it can pass on a message, which the spirit claims is from a deceased Howard witch.

B.B. Cantwell
(34 Reviews)
Genre: Mystery, Thriller & Suspense
FREE for a limited time
It’s pre-“Portlandia” Portland, when bookmobiles still roamed the Earth. When the retired head librarian is found dead in the City Library’s bookmobile, it’s no longer business as usual for fiery-haired librarian-on-wheels Hester Freelove McGarrigle. Does the murder have something to do with the wacko book-banning group with which the old woman was entangled? It’s up to Hester and her dishy, trail-running, pizza-obsessed neighbor, Detective Nate Darrow, to chase clues all over Oregon’s quirky Rose City. Their mutual connection with Nathaniel Hawthorne, along with Hester’s upchucking Maine Coon cat, build the romantic fizz in this cozy mystery spiked with humor and an authentic Northwest sense of place. Fasten your seatbelt — and hold tight to your armload of books — for the flash-bang ending high atop Crown Point in the spectacular Columbia River Gorge. Want great literature? Read “War and Peace.” Want a rollicking good read for a weekend or vacation? Try this debut novel from one of Portland’s last bookmobile librarians and her travel-writer husband, writing together under the pen name B.B. Cantwell.

Genre: Science Fiction

Dr. Thomas Clayton was born to an unwed teenage daughter of an Ozark share-cropper.He was adopted at birth without ever knowing the identity of his biological mother or of his backwoods roots. He now unwittingly arrives in the Ozark community of Eminence as part of an environmental research team studying the pollution effects of the logging industry.Clayton has nothing but contempt for the hillbillies of the area, while they in turn suspect that he is part of a Federal conspiracy to take over their land.
Shot down by the military, an alien spaceship crashes into the Ozark Mountains. The alien crew is killed, but the destruction of the spacecraft allows an aggressive alligator-sized amphibian to escape into the continental aquifer which extends from Canada to Mexico. The amphibians quickly multiply and begin devouring the livestock and ultimately the citizens of Eminence.A military unit from Ft. Leonard Wood attempts to eradicate the aliens only to be destroyed themselves by the aggressive creatures.
With the destruction of the military and the impending destruction of the citizenry, Clayton and the town folk join together to obliterate the creatures using only the resources available to a backwoods farming community.Failure would doom the entire nation as the amphibians could travel through the aquifer to wreak havoc throughout the country.
With the annihilation of humanity in the balance, Clayton discovers the key to destroying the aliens. But using it would require him to intentionally spread the pollution he has sworn to prevent. In an explosive pyrotechnic battle with the creatures, Clayton wrestles with the morality of blatantly destroying a new species or somehow capturing it for preservation before it destroys mankind.Does he prevent the spread of pollution or proliferate its spread to save the world? In the process, Clayton makes a stunning discovery that brings him full-circle to his Ozark roots and the family he never knew.
