I looked and looked and looked, but I could not find a chicken as awesome as the ones I have now at the fair yesterday.  They certainly had some beautiful chickens and they are just great I am sure, but non spoke to me like Heather, Jackie, or Summer. Maybe I really don’t want to bring a complete stranger into my flock. Really now! Who is this chicken? What do they want? Why are you here!!!! At what point did I truly lose my mind? I will take a breath, and rethink my approach. It’s a chicken for golly sakes. They don’t have agendas do they?

Only the flame from a curious candleholder illuminated the murdered corpse of Karl Knock on a bitterly cold Massachusetts night twenty years in the past. When the efforts of local, state and federal investigators failed to cast more light on the crime than the little candle did, the case gathered dust, unsolved and forgotten.

But when horror novelist Finn Ryan gets an invitation to dinner from a beautiful but eccentric and reclusive colleague, Tally Serzak, a web of danger sends its first, tentative filaments from that candlelit room. And nothing will ever be the same.

Because Finn has secrets. So does Tally. And so does Newton, MA, Police Detective Warren Yost, who found Knock’s body on that cold morning so long ago. Now, on the eve of retirement, Yost decides to solve the old murder and go out with a last hurrah.

As Finn’s involvement with the strange Tally reaches an intensity that has him running into walls, he begins to see similarities between himself and his own characters. He’s in a horror novel, except this one is real. There are no ghosts, no zombies or vampires. There is only Tally and an unfolding story Finn doesn’t want to see, but can’t ignore. As she knew he wouldn’t.

Warren Yost sees the story as well, but can’t assemble its puzzle until Finn provides a last piece that will lead to a final, and deadly, resolution.

She Must be a Daisy – One cat and one man in an apartment. One dies. The other tries to survive.

Genre: Coming of Age | Sports & Outdoors | Teen & Young Adult

FREE for a limited time

Arrested for skateboarding at three o’clock in the morning at the Venice Beach Skate Park, Kalifornia Blu’s life takes an unexpected turn when her rock star absent mom doesn’t show up at her sentencing hearing. To avoid a trip to Juvenile Hall, she tracks down her dad–whom she hasn’t seen since she was eight. The sentencing judge thinks a bit of discipline will be good for Kalifornia and transfers her to a Police Academy Magnet High School, where the students wear LAPD uniforms, learn police drills and practice forensics. And, she’s forced to live with her ex-skateboarding, ex-guitar playing, ex-dad Zachary, in his run-down Venice loft with a 6 pm to 6 am curfew. It’s not an easy sentence for a girl who has grown up touring with her mom, living in five-star hotels all over the world. Curfew is tough, but Kal is tenacious. When she discovers her cop school partner, Jade, is being threatened by her ganglord cousin, Kal skitches (skateboard hitches) a Range Rover through the Venice canals to save her. She rescues a young girl from a gnarly living situation with Jade’s help. It’s a rough world she’s thrown into, with some dangerous people… and a few new friendships, discovered in the most unlikely places.
