I finally watched a zombie movie last night and I am pretty proud of myself. I was brave and didn’t cry or try to run. Okay, it was an easy one to watch and it was a love story with a happy ending. “Warm Bodies”. It’s still a zombie movie and it totally counts.

Sidonia’s Thread: The Secrets of a Mother and Daughter Sewing a New Life in America
Hanna Perlstein Marcus
4.7 Stars (32 Reviews)
Genre: Biographies & Memoirs

FREE for a limited time

Did you and your parent ever keep a secret that lasted a lifetime? When Hanna Perlstein and her mother, Sidonia, come to Springfield, Massachusetts from a displaced persons camp after World War II, they know no one in America. With no other family, except each other, they build a world that revolves around Sidonia’s extraordinary talent with a needle and thread to create beautiful garments while Hanna serves as her dutiful model. As Sidonia becomes well-known in western Massachusetts and northern Connecticut for her remarkable sewing talent, she continues to keep her inner secrets about her past hidden not only from her daughter but from everyone else. Determined to craft a life of pride, self-reliance and perseverance, Sidonia teaches her daughter to “stand up straight” in fashion and in life. Sidonia’s Thread uses sewing metaphors to tell the tale of these two women as though stitched together like a handmade garment. Why did Sidonia keep these significant life secrets, and why was Hanna so afraid to ask about them? When Sidonia moves to elderly housing, Hanna steals some of her old letters and photographs hoping to find clues to her paternity, her mother’s reclusive behavior, and her heritage. Combined with a trip to her mother’s Hungarian homeland and a phone conversation with her father, Hanna’s surprising discoveries inspire a revised view of her life with her mother, replacing her conflicting emotions toward her mother with true reverence.

Genre: Family Life | Literary Fiction

Every dog deserves a forever home, and after being mistreated and given up several times, Wrigley has finally found his. The good-natured, smart mutt now spends his days as the house dog at SunRidge Assisted Living, comforting and doting on forty-five seniors. Happily, Wrigley has free run of the place, going where he senses he’s needed, but his preferred spot is beside his favorite resident, Marjorie Thompson.

A big shift comes to SunRidge, when a cranky curmudgeon named Walter Kepson moves in across the hall from Marjorie. Having arrived reluctantly, at the urging of his son, Walter can’t stand Wrigley or anything else for that matter.

But life has a way of making strange bedfellows, and after a series of dramatic, unforeseen events, Walter becomes indebted to Wrigley. His initial method of repayment, giving Wrigley lots of treats, perfectly suits the food-motivated house dog. But Wrigley is interested in more than just satisfying his unending appetite. He senses that Walter needs him and sees the old man as being similar to a neglected shelter dog, who if shown love, will reciprocate it.

Before long, Wrigley softens Walter in a way only a dog can, and eventually helps bridge the gap between him and his son. Walter responds in kind by allowing Wrigley onto his furniture, and ultimately, into his heart.

Told in Wrigley’s voice, All That Ails You is an endearing story about the power of a dog’s love, when we need it most, and healing the strained relationship between a parent and a child before it’s too late.

Pedro The Ugliest Dog In The World
Papa G
4.4 Stars (48 Reviews)
Genre: Children’s eBooks | Children’s Fiction

FREE for a limited time

Pedro is ugly, so ugly that he has been mistakenly identified as El Chupacabra.

In the town of Santa Maria all animals are welcome and free. But from the mountains, the lizard king and his gang raid the town of precious supplies. In their hour of need the town will turn to a hero, a hero whose name will strike fear in to all that hear it.

Will Pedro save Santa Maria? Or will the truth be told?

Authors Note: After receiving negative feedback and hate mail, I thought it prudent to add a PARENTAL WARNING-This book contains words like poo, fart and snot; it also uses the word fluff three times as a cuss word. I would also like to point out that Chupacabra comes from the words chupar “to suck” and cabra “goat”, literally “goat sucker” and is not a double entendre.
