Hubby and I were fortunate enough to take my friends jet-ski out for a cruise yesterday afternoon. I was a bit shaky at first, but hubby got the thing up to 55 mph and I was getting more and more brave and having a blast. All was good until we fell off. Did we fall off at a high speed? No. Did we fall off doing some wicked cool tricks? No. We fell off at a dead stop while both pointing at a tree at the same time. Two dorks in the water. The fish laughed at us for sure.

He wakes up and finds himself in a realm called Marenon; a place where humans are not the superior race, where magic is a way of life, and war is threatening to destroy it all.

Forced to make his way through the afterlife alone, Silas joins with a band of lawless mercenaries who claim they can help Silas find his murdered grandfather in exchange for his help on one of their more dangerous missions.

Along the way, Silas discovers he is part of an ancient prophecy declaring that he is the only one who can deliver Marenon from the enemies that wish to extinguish its people – the same enemies that killed Silas and his grandfather.

Josie spent twenty years as a battered wife, dying for a hero.

Now, she’s dying to become one…

Josie Kane is a “difficult” woman, a pure enigma – one who survives her abusive husband by honing her unnerving talent for playing mind games: she knows exactly how to manipulate a bully.

Finally divorced, she thinks the abuse is over, and she’s free. She’s wrong. And her cynicism is building.

Josie works with battered women, trying to rescue them from a fate similar to hers. But on the night that yet another battered woman is murdered by her husband, pining for a hero as she dies in Josie’s arms, her cynicism becomes a quiet, simmering hatred.

Her one remaining refuge is in her bond with Maxine and Samantha, the two friends whom she loves like sisters. When Samantha becomes pregnant by Jack – an abuser who makes known his intentions to use the baby as a weapon of control – Josie’s hatred ripens to a vengeful fury.

She sets out to take on one more batterer, manipulate one more bully… And she lures Jack into the crosshairs of the ultimate mind game.

Her friends are convinced that she intends to rid Samantha of Jack. They’re right.

But with Josie Kane, as always, there’s a twist.

With her friends helpless to stop her – and with Samantha hanging in the balance – Josie squares off with Jack in a life-and-death, winner-lose-all battle of wits to determine which side will win Sammy’s future.

The Savage Heart of Palermo
Daniel Kenyon
4.7 Stars (15 Reviews)
Genre: Biographies & Memoirs | Mystery, Thriller & Suspense

FREE for a limited time

The Savage Heart of Palermo is a fast paced crime thriller, with dark humour and an upbeat love story. It tells the tale of Joe Kelly, a young Irish-Italian-American, who flees from the States to Palermo, the traditional heartland of the Mafia.

Joe’s mother was Sicilian, but she was killed in a botched mugging when he was very young. Coming to Sicily is a way for him to feel close to her and discover a little about who she was.

He is escaping from a troubled past in a poor crime ridden district of Chicago. He has stolen a considerable amount of money from an extremely dangerous pusher and is wanted for questioning by the police in relation to a burglary that he did not commit.

Coming down from drugs and desperate to turn his life around completely, he donates half of this money to charity and uses the rest to set up his new life on what he thinks will be a Mediterranean paradise.

Soon enough, he discovers that Palermo is no easier than the place he ran away from. After almost two decades of relative quiet the Mafia is once again ready to rear its ugly head in Palermo. This new breed of Cosa Nostra is not entirely like the cool calculated one we all remember from the Godfather.

Now, as the Centennial of World War I approaches, we must not forget the spirit and sacrifices of those Canadians who secured our freedom.
