Tonight my hubby and I are having a date night. The kids are going to Grandma and Grandpa’s house for the night and we will have the house to ourselves.   My goal today is to NOT clean the house and tire myself out so bad I pass out at 7:30. I will not clean, I will not clean. Maybe just tidy up a bit.

Cold-Case Christianity: A Homicide Detective Investigates the Claims of the Gospels
J. Warner Wallace
4.9 Out of 5 Stars (81 Reviews)
Genre: Religion & Spirituality

NO LONGER FREE

Written by an L. A. County homicide detective and former atheist, Cold-Case Christianity examines the claims of the New Testament using the skills and strategies of a hard-to-convince criminal investigator. Christianity could be defined as a “cold case”: it makes a claim about an event from the distant past for which there is little forensic evidence. In Cold-Case Christianity, J. Warner Wallace uses his nationally recognized skills as a homicide detective to look at the evidence and eyewitnesses behind Christian beliefs. Including gripping stories from his career and the visual techniques he developed in the courtroom, Wallace uses illustration to examine the powerful evidence that validates the claims of Christianity. A unique apologetic that speaks to readers’ intense interest in detective stories, Cold-Case Christianity inspires readers to have confidence in Christ as it prepares them to articulate the case for Christianity.

Buried deep in a ravine in the picturesque Smoky Mountains is a very dark secret. David Hobbs, vacationing with his wife Miriam, inadvertently stumbles upon a small cloth ‘keepsake’ bag and a broken tooth. A human tooth. Miriam begs David to hand the bag and tooth over to park officials, but he ignores his wife’s pleas and secretly keeps the ‘harmless’ items. The action opens a doorway that had been closed for nearly a hundred years and unleashes hell on earth, or at least hell in the lives of David and Miriam.

Following the brutal murder of his best friend in Denver, and an aborted attack on his oldest son, David desperately seeks to understand why a mysterious teenage girl has chosen to terrorize him and the males closest to him. To prevent further devastation to his family and end the wanton bloodshed, he returns to the enchanted hills of eastern Tennessee, where a terrible truth awaits discovery…one that forces him to face the consequences for the unpaid sins of his ancestors.

Table for One

Ah, the pleasure of temporarily inhabiting characters imbued with so many of the flaws that most of us strive to hide. Five stories, involving well more than five problem customers.

Milo Steddiman, a disgraced business titan, revisits his childhood town of Lincolnsville in “Full Circle”, only to discover that the years spent away haven’t exactly erased the traces of personality he’d left years before.

In “A Summer Tale”, Miss Dori sees a familiar-looking man in a barber chair, and is flooded with memories of a rapturous summer decades before. Could this actually be Franklyn, who’d loved and left her, who’d stolen her heart and soul before departing her life?

A husband takes the plunge and informs his wife of feelings he’s developed for another woman. Being straightforward is such an admirable trait! The conversation, however, definitely does NOT go in the direction he had hoped. Such is his reward for “Honesty.”

Unlike Miss Dori, Catherine actually found the man of her dreams in Thomas Gardiner Huntley. And then they got married. Years later, Catherine is completing a “Jigsaw Puzzle,” her primary ‘allowed’ hobby, and she reflects on how her choices resulted in such an intractable situation, and what she can do to end it.

And to round out this 23,000-word collection of damaged goods, “Original Owner” opens a window into Gerald, who’s been chucked by girlfriend after girlfriend. For Gerald has a problem with those who have come before him romantically. And as he’s discovered with much agony, there’s not a damn thing he can do to alter the past. Or his obsession with it. An enticing group of stories! There’s nothing quite like being both horrified and relieved by experiencing through words how those tricky blemishes in our own personalities could have

altered our lives….

Running Against Time
Chris Pavey
4.9 Out of 5 Stars (9 Reviews)
Genre: Health, Fitness & Dieting | Sports & Outdoors

FREE for a limited time

The Fuji Mountain Race, heralded as Japan’s most difficult climbing race, is a 3,000-metre ascent over 21 kilometres of tarmac, gravel and volcanic rock. In 2011, Chris Pavey, a weekend runner from Brisbane, took on this challenge to raise money for charity, and in memory of his late sister in law, Christina.

Running in solidarity with a nation shaken to its core by the worst earthquake and tsunami experienced in modern history, Chris confronts his own inner demons of self-doubt. Will people support his cause? Can he reach his fundraising target? Will his body hold strong against the injuries plaguing him? Getting to the start of the race was challenge enough, but now he has to finish it, and by doing so, provide a fitting memory for Christina.

But Chris’ story begins long before this one race, and encompasses so much more than just running. Faced with a bizarre illness preventing his body from digesting fat, he re-discovers the true worth of exercise and good nutrition. From cycling through Japan, to a security guard hold up in the Middle East; from running his first road race on the Gold Coast, to scrambling through the rainforest of Tropical North Queensland; his tales not only entertain but also inspire as he successfully learns how to combine his passion for endurance running with a desire to fundraise.

In Running Against Time, Chris provides an unorthodox roadmap for others in their own endurance adventures and fundraising projects. With dedicated sections on how to train, how to overcome common running injuries, and how to fundraise, he will open your eyes to what lies out there waiting, and inspire even the most sedentary of us to pull on some runners.
