Once Upon a Road Trip (English Edition) Formato Kindle
Aside from contracting mono and repeatedly getting herself lost, Angeli’s adventure is mired by more unforeseen glitches — like being detained by Canadian authorities, and a near-death experience at the hands of an overzealous amateur wrestler. Her odyssey is complicated further when she unwittingly earns the affections of two young men. One a privileged martial artist; the other a talented techie with a colorful past.
Bewildered by the emotions they stir, Angeli spurns the idea of a doomed long-distance relationship. But she is unprepared for the determination of her hopeful suitors. In the wake of her refusal, one man will betray her, and the other will prove himself worthy of a place in her future.
Angeli sets off in search of a better understanding of herself, the world, and her place in it. What she finds is an impractical love, with the potential to restore her faith in happy endings.
A true story with an unapologetically honest outlook on life, love, faith, and adventure — Once Upon A Road Trip is a coming-of-age memoir.

From the first pages, Angeli really comes alive. One of the most remarkable things to see as the story unfolds, is how she reacts in different situations (boy drama, Ground Zero, detainment). She's a complex character that is easily relatable and very human. She has issues in the beginning of the story, which don't just resolve themselves by the end. Her struggles and discoveries were depicted in a well laid out manner, and had me finishing the book in one sitting. Being a teenager myself, I can't get over how much I like Angeli. It's really hard to come by well-developed female lead characters, but Blount nailed it. As this is a true story, I'd give a lot to meet Blount!
Angeli is not your typical, drama-filled teenager. Yes, she has her insecurities, and she's not perfect, but she is level headed, has a critical mind, and doesn't have to rely on others around her to find her identity. Blount also does an amazing job of balancing the different aspects of Angeli's life: her religion, past family problems, career indecision...not one aspect overcrowds the others. They are simply part of who she is, and that is something you can respect and enjoy in a character and an author.
The other characters are great, because they come from all walks of life, with situations of their own. She takes each one in stride, and I love to see the chemistry between them all. This story was so full of life, just in how she depicts each person. I loved it.
Vince and Scott. I am not one for love triangles, but I really appreciated how this drama played out. People have many layers, and how you slowly see more depth in both these boys was done flawlessly. I love how, by the end, I could still feel sympathetic for Scott (granted I was SO relieved when he was gone!) But only because she showed you a window into his life...and it was sad.
Back to Vince. Man I love this guy. Again, it feels weird as he's a real person, but he was another character I fell in love with. I appreciated how their friendship developed, again slowly peeling back the layers of his character till, by the end, I couldn't wait to see him again.
There were certain inconsistencies (she doesn't have a cell phone when taking on a road trip solo?) and grammatical errors, but they were easily forgotten once you got into the characters.
I realize this is based on true life events, which helps to bring a sense of authenticity to a story, but not just anyone can write the way Blount does, painting this adventure on pages. Five stars for some seriously great story telling.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I liked the idea of the books in itself, and I could deal with the religious aspects of it. But the main character... I don't know what to think of her. I think that she is brave for going on this trip, but the fact that she *makes out with multiple other characters, thinks she has feelings for them, yet she gets mad at them when they say they might love her (hide spoiler*I just couldn't get over that. Also the fact that I felt that she felt that she needed to help everyone. For example: *the father-son relationship that was not good. She got mad because the son wouldn't forgive his father for cheating on his mother, and she said its not good for him to hold a grudge, he should just forgive his father, god would want him too. I really wanted to slap her at that point because what his father did was unforgivable.8 Other than that and a few other scenes the book was good.
