For the most part, this is a well-written tale. The only mistakes that caught my eye were "...for your mother and I" and a comma where none was needed. The story was interesting, but it wasn't one I couldn't put down until Rayne goes to the contest. Then it became a page-turner. I was not happy with some of the events in the first half, especially when one of the main characters died early in life. I kept thinking this might have been another one of the priest's ruses, but it wasn't. The book has a very good theme, however--that it's never best to do the wrong thing, even for a worthy reason. It is a good, clean romance filled with court intrigue and interesting characters. I gave it a 4.5, which rounded up to a five.

Many descriptive settings were missing. We got to know the characters well we did not get to know the setting well. A land with medieval like qualities. Is it a different world? Some how the setting needs to be involved. Loved the tapestries. But did not really understand the emphasis on them.

I was so incredibly pleased to discover that the quality of The Hidden Sun is what I expect. It is a well-crafted story in an intriguing world with well-thought out characters. Every character and every scene, and pretty much every detail was there in the right place to move the story along. Plus, I am rarely surprised by where books take me and this story managed to do so. It showed me that what I thought the story was about at first glance, was actually just a portion of the whole.
I would and will recommend this book to my family and friends.

The morality written into the heroic figures plays well for those who appreciate a good tale developed as a medieval fantasy with kings, queens, knights, priests, and the councils that advise and sometimes don't consent. My desire to tell the good characters to be wary of those wicked ones was an indication to me that I was assuredly interested and engaged in the author' plot. I didn't miss work for it but the temptation to do so lingered in my thoughts more than once. The Hidden Sun does make me want to go further in the Bariwon Chronicles, but before I do so, I plead with the author to make some changes.
My disappointment is only that Morgan has the bones for an enjoyable tale without an overabundance of blood and gore some readers seem to enjoy, but evidently no editor to read his work and correct errors in, mostly, the typing of his little gem. I am one of those who will read a good story, whether simple or complex, however I am also one startled by the excess of typos in this story. My hope is that where the jarring problems an editor could have corrected exist, corrections will be made. Mr. Morgan's future readers will not, I hope, have to see in his lead book of this series the carelessness exhibited by hasty publishing. Still, it is a nicely crafted plot, and it is one I recommend despite that one issue.
