Having read the first book regarding the story I couldn't wait to get this one. As before I found I couldn't put it down until I knew what happens next. I love the fact her career continues and I have already purchased the next one(and two others).

The second in Targon Tales series, this book begins with 1st Lieutenant Whiteside bitten by a squid-like alien she was supposed to be guarding, while being attacked by pirates, one of whom kidnaps her away from the other pirates. That's just the very beginning-- the action continues until the last page.

Chris Reher has written a space opera in the classic style-- character oriented, yet filled with fascinating aliens (who, with the exception of the squid-aliens, aren't all that alien), space battles, and daring escapes. There's even a bit of romance-- but it's integral to the plot.

More to the point, we can watch the protagonist grow, the junior military officer begin to question the morality of the actions she has taken while following orders from her superiors, actions heretofore not thought about because they came under the category of 'following orders'. Watching her grow into a moral adult is one of the real plusses, as is the delightedly convoluted plot. It's a pleasure read that makes you want more. Happily, Reher has written them.

Eine interesante Storyline und gute Charaktere. Für jeden Scifi- und die meißten Fantasy-Fans zu empfehlen.
Dabei gibt es eine nette Romanze, aber was mir gefallen hat, war die Einsicht der Hauptdarstellerin, daß sie für sich selbst denken muß und nicht in Befehlsgehorsam verfallen darf.
Bundeswehrangehörige und andere Obrigkeitsgläubige, denkt nach!

It doesn't bounce around too much, has an interesting start and a rythm that is just nice. The participants are developed enough to make them and their 'movements ' sound feasible. The story itself works well. An enjoyable read and a good hook into other books of Chris Reher.
