A Superb, Moving Time-Travel Novel!

One of the best time-travel novels I've read and the best of the seven of Heldt's works I've read to date (and I intend to continue to read his books!). Although it is the second book in his Northwest Passage series, it is a stand-alone work.

The main character, Michelle, lives in Seattle and is pushing 50 years of age. She has just been widowed, but was in a loveless, frustrating marriage. A class reunion in her smaller Oregon hometown leads to her being sent back to 1979 from the present. The way this occurs is kind of hokey, but after that the book soars to new heights of self-discovery, helping others, romance, love, and drama. I read it in a couple of days and was emotionally drained at the end.

I loved the way the author has Michelle relating with her younger, teenage self, her past friends, including her future husband, and her family.

Heldt's writing is simple, but profound, and his characters spring to life. One can picture them, feel their emotions, and relate to them.

I have become a fan, Mr. Heldt! Congratulations on your writing achievements!

This is the only series left of John A Heldt's time travel series for me to read. Having enjoyed all the others, this second story in this series didn't disappoint. It has a different ending from most others. If you like time travel stories, you're at the right place!

Let me first mention that this book is not typical reading for me, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The main characters, Michelle, Shelly, Robert Land, Scott, April and Brian were all well developed. I found that the author, John A. Heldt, did an excellent job of describing his characters and their environment in such a way that I felt that they were part of my life as I was reading the book. Even though this book was written as part of a Series and I had not read #1, Mr. Heldt did a very thorough job of making the story complete in itself, and I look forward to reading other stories by him.

The strange thing was that I was reading another book, Beneath the Silence, by Charlene Carr at the same time as I was reading this book - one from my computer and one from my tablet. I found that the books both had similar ways of writing, in that they both covered different characters and different lives in different time periods and both did an excellent job of their character development. Thanks to both authors for a great read.

I have to say that I was more than a little skeptical when the plot took a turn at the start of the book, I didn't think that there was any way that it could be done in a new and refreshing way, but I was proved wrong. John A. Heldt took an age old idea and gave it new life, he did this through a fascinating protagonist and supporting characters. By the time I reached the end of the book and found out the fate that beheld this beloved character, I was in tears, but again, the incredible writing and ideas made the ending bittersweet. I found this an extremely insightful and refreshing novel, in the realm of reading, it is truly a pleasure to find a book that can make you say this, I applaud John A. Heldt for this masterpiece and highly recommend that you read it.
