Already beset by tragedy and troubling secrets, a near-rape forces her into a radical transformation. To ensure her freedom and security, Renee disguises herself as a male, Renny Doyle. Renny is a young man who accepts no limits to his freedom and is almost fearless. He isn’t impressed by the confines of legality and is willing to cross the line when necessary. He runs a false identity business, becomes a computer hacker, and does freelance jobs for a mysterious mobster. He turns to murder when his identity and lifestyle are threatened, and doesn’t seem to be burdened with guilt.

Renee and Renny share the same body, but their values are very different. Renee is straight as an arrow; Renny lies for a living. How long can this duality continue? What will it take to upset the balance between Renny and Renee? Can Renee ever go back to her old life? Does she even want to?

Worst book I've read in quite awhile...

Quite possibly the most boring waste of time book I ever read. Even though I got it for free the (tiny amount of) bandwidth it took to download and time I wasted on it make it WAY overpriced! Best thing that could have happened would have been if the main character committed suicide right after the death of her (his, it's???) parents. I kept reading hoping that "Renny Doyle" would die a horrible slow and painful death. I was so happy when the book ended, and I do mean it just ended, no climatic ending or cliff hanger making you want more I was happy to delete it from my reader.

Kann man perfekt jemand anderer sein? Renny Doyle kann es. Überzeugend, spannend und dabei auch humorvoll geschrieben. Der Schluss überrascht - es gibt Recht, aber Gerechtigkeit?

Renee Dolan, a bright, talented, well-educated 18-year-old living in New York City, has lived a
charmed life as the darling daughter of a well-to-do couple. But suddenly her life is turned
upside down. Renee's most pressing question becomes, "Now who am I." Throughout her college
years Renee seeks to answer this question by transforming herself bit by bit. When she graduates
and returns to New York City she has a harrowing experience which leads her to accelerated her
transformation by assuming a new identity---that of Renny Doyle.

As Renny she experiences a new sense of freedom from the usual expectations and constraints that
hampered Renee. Renny relishes this freedom and her chosen new line of work allows her to exploit it to the maximum, often carrying her over legal limits and involving her in high-risk operations. Renny's business thrives and so does Renny on the "rush" she experiences from risk
taking.

"Merchant of Lies" presents an intriguing and fast-paced assortment of situations that depict the risks and rewards inherent in the path Renny has chosen. Has she finally answered the question, "Who am I?"

This book is an easy read with lots of exciting twists and turns. Renny Doyle lives an action-packed life, one that is filled with many unintended consequences. The development of the character Renny is excellent. He is very likeable, believable and interesting. However, at times I would shake my head in disbelief over his antics. I was propelled to continue reading when I asked myself the question over and over, "What will Renny do next?" Can't wait for the sequel!

Finding out who you really are takes on a new dimension! Renee Doyle had a bright future ahead of her, but Renny Doyle seemed to have limitless possibilities. Renee had to live within the perceptions and expectations of her friends and colleagues. Renny had the freedom to take risks, break the rules, flirt with danger, and blur the lines of convention. Merchant of Lies is a fast-paced, compelling story that vividly illustrates that a change of identity is far from a crisis.
