Great tail ! It gives great homage to the generation that came to age in the 60s and early 70s it made me miss my youth. I've not missed on a story yet by this author.

I've written a number of reviews of other books, some of which were good stories and some of which were, well, less so. Martin van Pelt's "The Cirque" is the first I would classify as an excellent story. Two close friends, hiking in the Rocky Mountains, come across a crashed airplane containing two dead bodies and lots and lots of cash. Complications ensue.

To me, the key to an entertaining story is character development and the author succeeds admirably in this regard. Even the villains are interesting and complex and I felt empathy towards pretty well everyone. The dialogues flow well and are not stilted as they can be in other self-published works. Finally, the author's detailed knowledge of helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft, rock-climbing techniques and outdoor survival all add credibility to this gripping adventure tale.

This would make a great movie!

I enjoyed this well told tale immensely. As a pilot I enjoyed the authenticity of the flying scenes and as a reader I was quickly absorbed into a clever plot. I always appreciate good editing and am pleased to say that the attention to detail was evident.

This was a book that caught and kept my interest because the details were such that even technicalities of flying, hiking and rock climbing were described so precisely.. It put me there in the story even though those activities were all new to me.I've given it to my brother who had flight training, and expect to get a report from him on how he liked it.
The characters were well formed, believable, and the plot did not disappoint. The plot formed slowly but was wrapped up nicely.
My only criticism is that sometimes there were more minute details than necessary and that some editing of a few of them would have streamlined it some. I can't recall precisely which ones but things like the color of a garment, or whether someone was left handed, things like that that didn't affect the story line. I'm still curious about how one of the main characters managed to get 7 beers out of a six-pack but that's nitpicking. I would really en;joy reading another book by this author.

Wonderful Descriptions,Outstanding Writing, Exciting Plot

I won't repeat the story line as others have already done so. The writing is excellent with vivid descriptions, the characters three-dimensional so that I could be wherever the author described and I knew the people he portrayed very well. Each sentence was well crafted and carried the reader along and into the plot. It was an outstanding plot until I got to the end when it seemed as if the author may have been in a hurry to finish the novel--several things were not clear to me: why did one of the two main characters show up at the ranch and how did the money get out when the officials rescued our two heroes. Also, I wondered about the wife described in the main part of the book and not mentioned in the end story. I thought that perhaps it was that I missed some things, but when I discussed it with a friend she had the same reactions. Despite these glitches, I thought The Cirque an outstanding book and that the author had a wealth of knowledge of airplanes and hiking in the Colorado Rockies. I hope he'll contact me to clarify. I'd give it 4 and half stars...maybe 4 and three-fourths?
