Why would an adult read children's fiction, well why not.
I have given it 5 stars based on its suitabilty for its intended audience but I would have given it 4 stars anyway.
The characters are black or white, well its kids fiction, but they are dimensioned enough to be believable. The universe is inventive and the story paces along happily.
The book offers lessons for the reader , but not in a preachy way. I'm sure parents would approve.

I grabbed this book when it was offered for free on Kindle a few days ago, thinking it looked like something fun for my 8 year old daughter. I'm so glad I did. She read it in two sittings and absolutely LOVED it. We homeschool, and as she was beginning her book report today, I decided I'd read it too, and see if I could put together anything in addition to the book report. Now brace yourself for this ... I cried. Yes, yes, you're wondering why on earth this 32 year old woman cried during a children's book! I know, I know. But honestly, I just loved it. I was really able to relate to the story and the lessons in character. I can't wait for my daughter and I to continue on this journey with Egg! I've just purchased the second book in the series, which I will be reading first this time, as I want to create a homeschool lesson for it ahead of time. For any other homeschoolers out there, this is a great story to help with character building, competition (and winning or losing gracefully), etc. It also had some great vocab words, so we'll be doing a little with those as well.

First off I liked the book. It had many interesting aspects to the story. The world that was created and discribed was something that i would have like to learn more about. the pictures were beautiful and kept me wanting to read more. The detail i felt was lacking and it read like a book where the series was writen first and this was the book they wrote after to make the series make sence. I enjoyed the book dont get me wrong but i had no idea that it was the start to a 12 book series. Yikes! I am contimplating if i really want to continue reading more or not. I have so many questions that I want answers to that i probably will find myself reading the rest just to get the answers. Keep this in mind if you start reading this series that it is the "Prequel" and the series is 12 books worth.

I read this story with my adolescent daughters. We all loved the adventure and each took something different away from the experience. This well-crafted story enabled my girls to see something of themselves in the different characters. My children identified with the main character's ups and downs with friendships, the growing pains experienced by young girls and the bonds created between young and old.

As a mom and teacher, I loved the many themes ( empowerment, friendship, loyalty, courage ) embedded in this fast-moving story that carried us all on a memorable adventure which was part treasure-hunt, part mystery and entirely fun. The mom in me loved the opportunity for discussions with my girls about what we had read, and the teacher in me loved to see how the story brought out more critical thinking skills as they would analyze and/or make predictions about the story.

Mr. Iannone did an outstanding job on this story and we can't wait to download the rest of the stories!

To my way of approaching it, this had some good concepts, some great ways of trying to make sure we "heard about or named non-human characters" so the story could progress.

The real problem was that there were more than a few times that "leap of faith" took the place of actually creating the cause, effect, and how the results would stand or fall. The early establishment story did a fairly good job of setting the story up, but spent far too much time on trivial side actions. They spent too much time wading through the large bowl of created context, and did not go deeply into the soul or character of those who were to drive the story.

The second part (present day Earth) actually went into the inner character that was to lead the story. That the backstory was quickly and cleanly told helped, and it worked much better than the establishment story was able to work.

It looks like it has an appeal to some readers that shows it really does do the job, but I am afraid this is going to be a long, long, long story that tells and retells new versions of the establishment story, and as much as I hate to admit it, I hate that "we got us a good story, so let's drag it out" that seems to invading the huge box sets where you study and admite the bricks instead of looking at the wall the bricks created.

Being fifty five or sixty percent of the story being good means at least you are on the way.

And an independent editor who was accepted and trusted by the author could have helped to get the story on track more quickly and given it snap.

It appears I'm not among those seeking the next volume. I liked it, but unlike something that spends a lot of time creating the environment so the story can progress, this one seemed to have a lot of holding patterns and not opening up the characters so show the how as much as giving us reasons to accept a very much unreal story.

Unreal but interesting, three out of five stars.
