I don't write a lot of reviews, but after finishing "At Long Odds" I felt especially compelled to promote this great gem. It's a well spun story with great character development. There is romance, drama, and excitement all woven together. Her writing style is easy to follow and felt like it had its own voice. It appears that Hannah Hooton has pulled her inspiration for the romance narrative from Jane Austin without being a copy cat.

I usually don't like this genre of books; I tend to find them clichéd, over dramatic, or just too dull or repetitive for lack of plot devices, but I loved this book. I felt like I could relate to the main character and was so drawn to the story that I couldn't put it down. There were still some clichés and I found it fairly predictable, but it did not seem like another cookie cutter romance novel. There are grammatical errors here and there, but they are few and far between and it is still very much worth your time to read.

It's one of those books that just makes you smile when you get to end. Great for reading on a snowy day by the fire or on the beach sipping an umbrella drink.

Fantastic for horse racing lovers

As a huge fan of horses and horse racing, this book was a real gem to find. I'm not overly fond of the racing novels that seem to focus heavily on the mystery suspense aspect of racing, and so Hooten's book was a great find for me. I loved both the main characters, Ginny and Julian, and found them to be fleshed out excellently. The description of Newmarket and the horse racing scene was excellent and really helped to set the atmosphere for the book and help the reader understand the in's and out's of racing. As the story went on I found myself truly rooting for Julian and Ginny to get together, and found the tension between the two over the final race to be unbearable. I didn't know who I wanted to win more! An excellent addition to to the equestrian genre!

This was another free selection, another great discovery. I do not know anything about horse racing, but another reviewer says that it was well research so I have no doubt about it because it seems so accurate and plausible. Even without the knowledge of racing, the author verbalized the race in such ways that she keeps you on the edge. Just like another reviewer mentioned, I felt I got a peak behind the scene of horse racing.
I found this book to be very interesting and I enjoyed the read. It was a good romance set in an unusual world for me. The story line, the drama and the plot was compelling. A very well balanced book: with the right amount of drama, romance dilemma; horse racing excitement; and, a bit of humor to make you smile. The type of book that is hard to put down.

My reason for a 4 stars instead of a 5, it was very well done, very well written but could have used a little more editing. Mind you I have seen much, much worst.

i see others have given this 5stars but not as good as the others i have rated as 5stars hence four given. For me it was a bit slow off the starting blocks but once it got going a great read, doesnt matter if you know about horse racing or not, which i dont the story follows a struggling stable next door to a successful one, a bit like david and goliath, easy flowing and leaving you wanting more.
