I don't leave reviews for many books, even when I really love them. But I just have to for this series. This is some of the best writing I've come across in a while, especially in the romantic murder mystery vein. I've torn through the first three books already and just ordered two more. For 99 cents, you can't beat the price, and I think the lengths of the books are perfect. I can't help but love Lacy as a character (and relate to her in many ways), and the banter between her and the characters is so witty. I really struggled today not to laugh aloud because my daughter was sleeping on me, and I didn't want to wake her up. If you like murder mysteries with a romantic sub-plot (my fave) and enjoy humor as a bonus, I don't see how you could be disappointed in this series. Sure, the love triangle stuff lasts for a while, but it really does keep you wanting to read more. The mysteries are very well-woven and will keep you guessing. Really, this writer is not one to miss; her style and word usage are superb, in my opinion. I wish there were 10 in the series! (P.S. If you do like these, I'd recommend checking out Jenna Bennett/Jennie Bentley and Gemma Halliday as well.)

My expectations were very low about this book, but overall I enjoyed it and found the main character (Lacy) to be pretty funny and likable. However, to call this book (or the series) a mystery series is really quite a stretch! There is a mystery/crime in it, but Lacy is definitely NOT a sleuth. If you're looking for a book that is about the mystery and about the heroine solving the mystery, this is not it! This is more like a rom-com, I'd say - w/ some mystery thrown in for flavor. Though it seems more about the potential for romance than mystery, these really are clean books - no swearing and, though there are physical aspects, which are kind of cheesy, the books are very PG. I'm not sure, but these may be meant for young adult.

You also have to suspend a LOT of disbelief when it comes to the characters in this book, and their actions. A lot of the characters, interactions, and relationships are pretty ridiculous and one dimensional. There's also a lot of waist and bicep grabbing... kinda weird. But I did laugh at the parts that were meant to be funny, as well as a number of parts that I'm pretty sure weren't meant to be funny.

If I could, I'd probably review this as a 3.5 star. However, I rated it up because... well, I was in the mood for light and easy-peasy, and that's what this is. It is sweet and funny - and if you keep your expectations low and don't mind all of the above, it's enjoyable enough. I ended up caring about what would happen next and I purchased the next one for $0.99. Mind you, I wouldn't spend much more than that on these. It's kind of like a soap opera, quality wise. Or like eating Apple Jacks for dinner... probably shouldn't be your regular diet, but sometimes the heart wants what it wants.

I enjoyed this book about a small town in America and the amateur sleuth Lacy. I bought all the rest in the series as a consequence and enjoyed them all, although I did get fed up with her self doubt etc. At least she is on track now. I will buy the latest book in the series when it is out.
