Aetherium: Legend of the Skyfire Stone (Book 2) (English Edition) Formato Kindle
Now thrown together by fate, Lorenzo and Taziri race through a gauntlet of vicious assassins, undead demons, and giant beasts to find the fabled Skyfire Stone in the peaks of the frozen mountains. But when the Espani warship sets sail for Marrakesh, Lorenzo must stop a war that could destroy every nation of the Middle Sea, even if it costs him both the stone and his life.
Welcome to the world of AETHERIUM, where wondrous machines sail the seas and the skies, enormous beasts roam the earth, and the restless dead whisper to the living. Similar to our own world in the sixteenth century, AETHERIUM explores a reality in which many of the megafauna did not die out, including terror birds and saber-toothed cats, and where a devastating Ice Age continues to ravage Europe while African queens rule over the most advanced nations in the world. But strangest of all may be the science of controlling the souls of the dead using a golden metal with many names: sunsteel, orichalcum, and... AETHERIUM!

May I repeat myself in saying I loved this book. Much like the first book in the series, The Broken Sword can work as a stand alone novel. So if you haven't read the book one don't worry too much. You won't be lost, but you probably want to pick up a copy of book one just so you don't miss out on the adventures that lead to up to book two. Once again Lewis tells his story through multiple points of view. Each chapter is a separate character, and each chapter moves the story forward. Unlike the first book the chapters aren't separated into the consecutive days that they occur in, however I don't think that takes away from the story any. And it really doesn't seem to make any difference in the authors writing style. The story is still fast paced, yet easy to follow. The characters again are well rounded as well as interesting. If you are looking for a new series to read may I definitely recommend The Halcyon Trilogy.(the third book has recently come out so it's not like you have to wait for ever to finish it either) Lewis's writing is strong through out all three books, and whether you read them together or as separate stand alone novels you won't be disappointed.

The world-building is unique and satisfying. The author places you in the 19th-century western Mediterranean, but in a timeline where the Ice Age is still in full swing. So places like England and Germany are buried under glaciers, while Spain, Italy and Morocco are in a temperate region where snow is not uncommon.
An anti-killing hero is a nice change-of-pace. The ending is decent, if not spectacular. There are a few too many deus ex machinas, but I quibble.
Even though it is part of a series, The Broken Sword can be read as a standalone book. There are some back-references to Book 1 (which I haven't read), but none of them are vital to this story.
This was a fun read from start to finish. Nothing deep or highbrow. Just an exciting tale. 4 Stars

'The Broken Sword' doesn't disappoint. The pace is maybe a little more measured this time, but the plot comes together smoothly because of it, perhaps with less coincidences than are present in the Burning Sky. If you enjoyed the character development of the first book (which left a number of questions unanswered), then you'll love the Broken Sword - you might even come to love some new favourites - Lorenzo, for example, takes on a new shine for me.
This series is well worth your time reading, in fact it's addicting - I have found myself staying up long past my bedtime, engrossed. Thankfully the chapters are short and provide plenty of opportunities to take a food break...

Essentially Steampunk, with electric elements creeping in plus magnificent animals & ghosts - what more could you ask for?
