Safely Buried (English Edition) Formato Kindle
It was ten at night. I had just come off I-65, and my high beams lit her up from behind. She was walking along the road between dark, endless cornfields, and her right leg was in a cast. She wore denim shorts and a yellow tank top that didn’t quite reach the shorts. Without crutches, she moved as fast as she could on the gravelly shoulder. She would take a long step with her good leg, stiffly swing the cast forward the same distance, and immediately start the next step. Tilting jerkily, she looked as if she would fall with every stride. I crossed the centerline to give her more room to fall. Just as I was about to pass her, she glanced over her shoulder and stuck out a thumb.
When Phil Larrison, editor of a small-town newspaper in southern Indiana, picks up the hitchhiker, this chance encounter plunges him into a deadly mystery that he struggles to solve because he wants a big story for the paper. But the story turns out to be much bigger than he expects—and far more painful.

At any rate, the character development was well done and there are many times you felt that you were in the house where the killings took place, exploring with Phil, the main character. I enjoyed all the different characters in the book as well. They certainly were an interesting group. I liked how the story was told too and the author did a good job of weaving the two mysteries together.
I will definitely check out any other books by this author. I hope there is a sequel to this one - hint, hint!

So far this a great book and has been a nice escape from worrying about my mom as she's having some medical testing done. The first quarter went fast (around 60-90 minutes to read) and I found myself engaged with both the plot and the cast. The writing feels solid, though at times a bit stacatto -- but that might just be a reflection of my preference for more flowing prose. However, I'm caught up in the mystery, wondering what the hell is wrong with Paula, and curious about whether or not this whole thing will end with Phil being caught in some kind of weird phsychotic something. As I read, I'm remembering the psychological feeling of the twists in Gillian Flynn's GONE GIRL, but I suppose I haven't read enough yet to comment on the psycho/suspense aspect of this story. Still, I'm engaged and entertained, and so ...
My Thoughts At 50%:
Well I'll say this, Mr. John Pesta: You've got my attention. I haven't been bored with this book yet, and I've spent a Good deal of my time confused while reading it. Not because the plot is faulty or the characters are unclear, but because all is well and this author has done a great job of weaving everything together in such a way that the reader can't get too far ahead of the game. I find myself engrossed and anxious to find out what happens next, engaged in the story and invested in the characters. So far, this book is a very solid read.
My Thoughts At 75%:
My goodness, the twists and turns in this book. I can't help but wonder about this author's other works - though I'll admit this book is a little dry on emotional depth in the romantic subplot. Then again, maybe that's just the voice of the male main character. Overall though, the story is still engaging, and the writing is both well-done and very clean.
My Thoughts At The End:
Seriously? THAT'S the end? Sudden and abrupt, the end of this book all but ruins what would otherwise have been a very solid five-star read. I'm terribly disappointed ... three stars.

The characters felt real to me. As in real life, everything was not tied up in neat bows at the end. Seems to me that the unfinished ends could lend themselves to a sequel??
I would heartily recommend this to anyone who enjoys well fleshed out characters, good first person narrative with a real person and an interesting story line.
