Chase now wears two hats as a Federal counter-terrorism liaison to the local police department in Boulder, Colorado where he becomes embroiled in two seemingly un-related cases. Working as a detective with Boulder PD he chases another death, this one the apparent rape/murder of Rachel Stevens, an upscale housewife attending night classes at the University of Colorado.

And with his counter-terrorism team he is embroiled in a series of killings involving a militia group, a rogue ex-Special Forces officer, a psychopathic ex-CIA contract mercenary, and ruthless drug runners.

From the streets of Boulder, to the highest railroad tunnel in the world, to a swingers club hiding in plain site in suburbia, Afghanistan starts to look pretty good to Chase.

As this book was a shift in the previous story lines, I wondered if I would take to it. Wow was I surprised, not only was it a shift for the better, but it was also action and intrigue from begging to end.

This is the first time I have read a Bob Mayer book but will not be the last. I am going to purchase every single one of his books in the "Black Ops" series today.

In the few reviews I have written, I never give any details about the book because I do not want to spoil anything for anyone. You can read the authors description about the book and get a very accurate picture of what the book is about. With that said, purchase this book. I started reading it this past weekend and finished it last night. I read the book in three evenings instead of watching my favorite television shows. Good thing for DVR.

The story takes place in Boulder Colorado. Considering my family enjoys going to Boulder and the surrounding area and knowing Boulder like we do, the author made me feel like I was actually there with the vivid descriptions. I could picture myself driving the same streets and seeing the same sights as he was writing about. The author was also able to give each character incredible depth and background.

I am a mystery/thriller fan and this book did not disappoint in any way.

This book had more turns than a left handed screwdriver. With overlapping cases that had you hooked to every page looking for the links. Recommend this book highly.
