GLYNN JAMES, born in Wellingborough, England in 1972, is an author of dark sci-fi novels. This is a review for the whole series. There are 14 books in the main series and two other books that are prequels that tie-in directly to the main series.

The books take a usually troll and stupid setting - Zombie Apocalypse, usually full of inconsistencies, plot holes, boring scenarios, and awful decisions, but makes it really work. There is a clear goal for the setting from the beginning, and the story details every moment the protagonists take to get there.

It's been an amazing epic journey across the world that really takes your breath away. Large cast of diverse characters and lots of action. The books are also very well written grammatically and structurally. The first few books start out slow, but it really begins to pick up pace from book 4 and onwards.

The only things that I did not really like were some cliche "power of friendship/love moments" but they at least weren't drawn out as much and it wasn't a one sided wank, and you especially had one character that reminded you of reality against such notions.

Really Compelling Read - Very Gripping

I purchased this with and open mind as I have read other similar stories by authors who have a military bias which can make them difficult to get into unless you are able to understand the jargon, but this one was much different.

The real hook was that it was British based as opposed to solely set in the good ole USA, which made it easy to engage with the locations and the characters right away. As it turns out the main character group is a mixed bag from around the world so does give you a flavour of the various traits and social interactions across the operators - as they are called.

The story quickly ramps up and builds the tension from the get go. I found myself wanting more and nervously turning the pages (of my kindle) desperate to find out what terror was awaiting them around the next corner.

The authors have used just enough military content to keep it's intended identity yet educational and relevant for the average reader, although my only criticism is that sometimes there is a lot of reference to bullet calibers that can be a little repetitive. The characters have personalities that you can engage with rather than being sterotypical gung ho /army /action hero types.

A nice twist was the introduction of new kinds of zombies, that are faster and more vicious, meaning the action changes constantly to mange the threat level as the story unfolds, as opposed to the usual wait and keep still till they shuffle past routines that some books cant break away from. This series paints the picture of how these war veterans who are used to killing targets and them staying down, have to adapt their approach to an enemy that just keeps coming!

I couldn't wait to order to whole series, which I've now read. Thank god for instant purchasing through the kindle store!
Now waiting for Volume 5 to come out.....

Seriously, they're blown right off... This book starts with a bang and keeps on pounding until you're weak in the knees. I have read every entry in this series and have just starting my my retread through the world of Arisen and have to tell you I am gobsmacked. The characters are serious hard-cases, the zombie threat feels new and exciting AND the action is breathlessly believable. These two authors know how to set the pace and keep you hooked. Don't miss out on this series!
