Workaholic mum Julie Wainscote becomes an overnight Twitter sensation when her live TV gaffe goes viral. Fired from her job, she takes up the challenge of becoming a stay-at-home mum to her son, Jacob.

But when she realises the school run is a catwalk, the coffee mornings involve competitive catering and the class bear has been to Lapland, she has to admit the adjustment required may be beyond her. Does she have what it takes to join Dubai’s ranks of immaculately groomed school mothers?

Cupcakes & Heels is a delightfully funny short story about the dilemmas facing mothers the world over.

PRAISE FOR CUPCAKES & HEELS: “An uplifting and candid story about one of the most difficult decisions any mother has to make. A truly funny, insightful and beautifully written slice of parenting life.”

A short story that is fun to read, but outlines the decisions and insecurities that we all face whether we have "real jobs" or not. It captures the oddities, perks and frustrations of life in Dubai and answers the recurrent question, "What do you do with yourself all day?"

This book was a very quick read. It depicts the dilemmas most mothers face; stay at home or go back to work. It is nice for a quick read. I can't wait to read more from this author and to gain more insight about life in Dubai.

When Julie,a workaholic mother of a seven year old son, realizes she has had it, she speaks out. Too bad it is on TV and she is chastising an important client-the CEO of one of her company's biggest and most difficult clients. By the next morning she has been fired and is now a full time mum. Fortunately her husband is very supportive and her son is appreciative as we follow Julie's funny approach to being a stay at home mom in Dubai’s ranks of immaculately groomed school mothers.

This is a very short book/story that left me appreciating her decision to be with her child, yet with many unanswered questions. However I enjoyed reading it, and it was the perfect length when I really didn't have time to get started on a longer book. Plus for me was getting a little information about Dubai and their school of many nationalities!

An honestly written narrative of the struggle facing the everyday pressures working Mums put themselves under. The added bonus was the character portraits we were given by the author. Am looking forward to reading mote from her.

Many women struggle with the desire to hold on to their career while also being a parent who is there for their children; when you see them off to school this seems like the time to find that balance but the extra curricular activities required for the school aged child can find the stress more apparent than ever. This story perfectly captures that struggle, humourously describing what many mother's experience but won't always admit to in certain circles as it's all about keeping up appearances. A wonderful read.
