I thoroughly enjoyed reading Murder on the Hill. It's fast paced, funny, suspenseful, and quite entertaining! Harley Hill is not your typical heroine. She comes from a shady past. From foster homes, to living on the streets of London, to backpacking her way abroad, and back to London, she finally gets a chance at a legitament job as a "finder" for the Silvers Finding company. For the first time in Harley's life, she has found a friend/employer who trusts her. She has two hunky guys who make her melt, which brings some romance into this murder mystery. There is also a crime lord after her for past paybacks. Harley has a great sleuthing mind and puts the clues the author sprinkles thought the book, into the right order so she can solve who is really the murderer. I loved the characters, the action, and the intrigue of this mystery. I hope you'll give this one a try. I'm off now to download the second book in this series. (I'm so excited there are four books already in this series!) Enjoy!

Murder on the Hill by Kennedy Chase is the first book in the Harley Hill Mysteries. Harley Hill has not been having the best of luck. She was dropped off at foster care when she was little with just a photograph. The photograph was of her with three girls and a boy. Written on the back of the photo was “you are not alone.” Harley, which is not her real name, has had trouble finding a permanent job. She knows antiques and is good at finding objects. A recent job, though, did not go as planned. She was acquiring diamonds for crime boss, Anton Ivanov and one got lost. Harley is not quite sure what happened to it, but Anton believes she stole it. Anton now wants repayment of $5,000 a month. That is a little steep for someone with a regular job.

Cole Lockland is Harley’s best friend. He has found a position for Harley with Cordelia Silvers of the Silvers Finders Agency. Her first job is to figure out why someone broke into Mr. Bellman’s jewelry shop and left a doru (a Japanese doll). It was left as a warning. Harley goes home with Cordelia and accidentally drops the doru (thank goodness it was just a fake). Inside the doru is a black diamond. While investigating Mr. Bellman’s wife ends up dead and now Alex, Cordelia’s almost ex-husband and homicide detective, is on the case. Harley finds Alex to be drool worthy, but tries not to show it in front of Cordelia. Why is a black diamond inside the doru and why was it left at Bellman’s? Was Mrs. Bellman murdered? What is going to happen next? Harley and Cordelia set out to solve the riddle while Harley works hard to keep hidden from Anton (she would like to keep her legs intact).

Murder on the Hill is a cute and humorous cozy mystery. The story is not long and get easily be read in a couple of hours. The mystery is not easily solved and when the book ends you wonder what Harley will get up to next. I give Murder on the Hill 4 out of 5 stars.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I read an incredible number of mysteries. This first novel pops with all sorts of information - all of which lead to more questions. The central mystery is the murder of Mrs. Bellman and a necklace of black diamonds, and then another death, and then... well, you'll find out for yourself. It doesn't stop there. Did I mention loads of cash, a fake passport, gangsters and Nazi loot?
As if that weren't enough, the engaging main character isn't who she used to be, well, maybe a little, but she's working on becoming somebody a little better - except for the bit about tea, cake and champagne! The wonderful characters around her have their own mysteriousness, and then there is a little bit of sizzle.... A dominatrix, really?!? Oh, and there is that unresolved bit of Candi's almost ex. And Cole - does he sound delicious? Dangerous? Not all is open and aboveboard there either. Party on friends - there is a second book in this series and I bought it. Yes - actually PAID for the thing. That is how good this book is! Enjoy!

This was a very likeable story with simple vocabulary and sentence structure. I had originally read the second book in the series first and consider them about the same in quality. The biggest and most detracting problem with the author is the grammar. Incorrect use of pronouns was irritating. Sentences such as "The thing that surprised both Cordi and I" which should be corrected to "The thing that surprised both Cordi and ME." Repetitious use of words like "Holy crap" and "Ew" were irritating also.

If the author could clean up her English, her stories would be delightful. Unfortunately, for me, they detracted too much to really enjoy the book.

**** (3.5)
A mystery without cliffhangers. A quick read stand alone book with ongoing characters. Implied only sex. No nudity. The dominatrix scene was played for humor rather than heat and STILL was not what I would call explicit sex. In fact, there was little sexuality involved and it was happening in the background. People need to relax. Occasional cursing. About what you hear if you are out and about in a city. Set in London. Written 2014 (this latter factoid is because I initially thought it might have been written in the 90's, but eventually the technology caught up.) -- Thoroughly enjoyable with likable characters. Not sure on every aspect of the wrap up, but I caught enough to not lose any sleep over it. Some really nice situational humor. The h was believable and not overwritten in a strained effort to make us like her. The characters were pretty much written to be real people. I plan to read the 2nd in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Un giallo divertente
Reviewed in Italy on March 15, 2015
Se vi piacciono i gialli vivaci e leggeri, quelli che si leggono senza guardarsi alle spalle cercando ombre minacciose, questo è ciò che fa per voi.
Simpatico, divertente, originale. ho già voglia di leggere gli altri due della serie.
