I really liked this book. The writing and editing both are exceptional for a first novel. It's a little bit short at less than 200 pages but still well worth the price. I liked that the "flash backs " were in italics. It made it much easier to read and kept everything flowing. I also liked that the "flash backs" furthered the story and provided important background and character development without taking anything away from the current events.
By the time you finish the story you realize that this is just an opening adventure in the world this author is building - but I'm happy about that. I'm looking forward to more. I don't feel that it ended so abruptly that there was no resolution to the current story - it's more like the opening salvo of a battle. And it is SO refreshing to have a strong male character that goes with the flow and just gets on with it rather than wallowing in self-doubt and self-pity with page after page of angst filled inner ramblings. This guy - and his female sidekick - are both strong and likable.
There is quite a Mad Max feel to this post apocalyptic tale but with plenty of tech to please those of us that like that kind of thing without the over explanation of how it all works. There are blood and guts and good gory fight sequences and weapons that actually don't work if they haven't been maintained properly and good guys and bad guys all woven together in a pretty darn good story.
I don't hesitate to recommend this as a good entertaining read.

I enjoyed this story and it is good post-apocalyptic fiction. I’m not a big fan but the story is entertaining. I don’t like the gore, and mad Max style villains, but they are only minimally featured in this book

Overall, Extensis Vitae was a good read. Very reminiscent of Captain America: soldier wakes up in the future in an enhanced body. The plot flowed well, and the characters were very intriguing. The author set the story up for a sequel well, without leaving the book's plot unfinished with a cliffhanger.
What I didn't like:
There was a sex scene in chapter 7 (not graphic, more was implied than actually written) that was awkwardly written and unnecessary to either the plot or character development. It came out of nowhere as it seemed so out of character for one of the two involved.
Also, some of the fight and violence scenes were incredibly graphic (think it's and lots of blood and guts). The gore it did have wasn't enough for me to stop reading, but some chapters were extremely gross.

At the time of writing this review, the book is free. That can be both good and bad. In this case it is a positive as I found the writing to be well done, the book is nicely edited and the story flows. There was enough action to keep my interest and enough detail to buy into the plot. Perhaps I have low expectations--but I found this read (albeit a quick read) enjoyable. If you are look for a free read with plenty of action and tight editing, this is a wonderful offering. Be prepared, however, to have to buy a not so inexpensive next series of 3 books. Good marketing on the author's behalf. I like an author who is willing to put his money where his mouth is---I will be buying the box set.

A quick read (193 pages), EXTENSIS VITAE (Book 1), was surprisingly fun and entertaining and is Mattix’s debut novel (novella). You can tell from the cover, so this isn’t a spoiler, the lead is a bit Mad Max in the post-apocalyptic future.

MSgt Michael Reznik, Delta Team, is a soldier who wakes up after a long slumber; memories slowly coming back, finding himself in a strange environment with ‘fake food’ and some unfriendly people. Oh, and his body seems completely foreign to him. I’ll stop there for your entertainment to continue if you read this book.

Ultimately he has skills that are desperately needed and must find answers surrounding missing colony members. After that he must find more answers before his time expires, setting the stage for Book 2.

Vague for a reason – I really don’t want to give much away. Elements of the character, the situations, etc are revealed throughout the read.

There is loads of violence and bloodshed which is always fun. Unless I fell for the obvious, there are a couple characters to be revealed with links to Reznik.

I would not hesitate to continue this storyline.

This is a really well-written story set in a post-apocalyptic world. The action is fast-paced, the world that this story takes place in is detailed and creative, and the characters are developed well. In particular, I found the protagonist's, Reznik, back story to be gripping, and definitely had me pulling for him throughout. The use of technology is central to the story; its use is creative, but also gets you thinking - we may not be too far away from that point. If you like to read post-apocalyptic fiction, fast paced thrillers, or just first-time authors in general, I highly recommend Extensis Vitae.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this. It has a little romance, some scifi elements and a some very cool action. The characters are developed enough that I cared what happened and they have reasonable back stories.

The plot was typical of the genre but it had a twist or two that I wasn't expecting.

It's a good first novel from this author.

The author is obviously condacting AI research. Because this book is written by a robot about robots. Just try to vocalize dialogs with computer voice. Perfect fit. Emotionless writing. 2 Stars only because the story had potential.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and will be purchasing the full series in the very near future! A book that was hard to put down, with gory fight scenes (with a bit of Mad Max and Terminator thrown in) and a storyline that grabbed you from the start – and continued to develop along the way.

The story flowed quite well, even with flashbacks thrown in, which helped to fill in any gaps along the way. From start to finish, this was a great read – gritty, tough, without overdoing it in any area. Even the use of weaponry was realistic – with weapons not working if they hadn’t been maintained properly.

For fans of Fallout, you may find this series to your liking! I’m really looking forward to reading the other three books in the series and seeing where Mattix goes with this story – I’m already hooked!

Was not sure at first. Quite enjoyed it. 5 stars because I like the story line. The character. I want to read book 2. It flows as you read it. Yes there is super tech but not over the top. Makes a change. Worth 5 stars.
