When the ancient evil that killed her parents comes to San Francisco, Sara is forced to choose between her fears and her desire to protect those she loves.

Sometimes great things are thrust upon us. Sara wishes this supposed 'greatness' didn't include a new name, unicorns, and catching on fire.

PHOENIX CHILD is the 1st novel in the Children of Fire series, a young adult urban fantasy series. This book has many quotes with them explained as messages her mother left her. Sara is raised in a group home after her mothers death at five years old. She wakes up on her fifteenth birthday knowing something has happened but not what or why. She knows her skin has changed color and so has her hair which she covers up. She is allowed to go to a school teaching circus stunts . She will discover many things there besides the training. Dream memories will lead her to gifts and a messages from her mother, one telling her who to go to and hoping it is before her fifteenth birthday which it is not but she has actually ended up meeting who she was to go to just ten years later. She finds her family,learns her real name is Sapphire and she is The Jewel with a very special job ahead of her. With the help of family and friends all Children of Fire descendant of Shamash and Aya the King and Queen of Phoenix . With her Uncle Gavin and his wife Anali friends Kayin , Taliesin they will prepare to travel with the Cirque du Magigue Feu to hide while completing their job to safe all the magical beings and return them to Akasha, protecting them from the Sons of Belial. A job that could not be done without The Jewel (Sapphire,Sara). This is really, really good and very interesting combined with being so well written. I know the stories will continue. We are so lucky.

I've had this book on my TBR for a while and I could kick myself for waiting so long to read it. I came across it while browsing for "New Reads" on Amazon. My attention was captured by this lovely book cover. After reading the book blurb, I knew I had to read it and I can honestly say I enjoyed it.

I found the story line to be unique. I love to read about creatures from mythology around the world and the Phoenix is one of my favorites. The characters were well fleshed out that made them realistic. The world building was cast in vivid details. The flow of the story was steady.

This is a YA Fantasy and I believe it's a proper category for it. It's also a clean read. No romance for the main character, but I can see something coming up in future books. That's a good thing, due to the fact that several books are out now.

Sara (main character) has lived in the foster care system for years. She tries to follow the rules and cause no problems. She doesn't remember her parents. When she turns 15, changes occur that have her worried. As time goes by, she discovers some startling facts: she has magical powers, and she is "The Jewel", and after all this time in the system, she has family. She is learning to control her powers and come to grips with finding out that there are bad people who will want to find and destroy her. While she's learning about her powers and her family, she discovers that there is a prophesy that has been foretold.

What happens next, you might ask? My answer is to get the book and read them in order. That's what I'm gonna' do and this book is FREE on Amazon right now. Get the book, read it, then you can be the judge and decide.

This fascinating story centers around a very sympathetic character, an orphan living in a group home who thinks she has her life for the next several years all planned out and suddenly discovers that fate has a completely different set of plans for her. She wakes up on her 14th birthday with a new appearance and a new set of powers that she has to learn how to master. She also discovers that she has connections to other people with powers who want to help her learn to use her powers, if she can just get over her fear of her new role in life, her fear of the powers, and her fear of building emotional connections to other people. The author has done a wonderful job of world-building, creating a world history and system of magic that serves as a backdrop for the evolution of the characters, and that clearly sets us up for a whole series of books to come. The combination of character arc, as the main character evolves, and the plot arc, driven by a powerful set of dramatic events, kept me captivated- I couldn't put it down! There are now two books in the series and a third one on the way, so the author is clearly doing a lot with the rich, complex, interesting magical world full of interesting characters that she has created.

I Love a great cover: This is what first drew me in to try this one! I know! but look at that cover!!!! Beautiful!!

First this is a very clean read, many are not anymore, I've shared this with my 11 year old son to read I feel he will love it as well, so yes it is for everyone!!! Always a good thing in my book.
Now for the tale: This is what I feel a great start to a whole new world, it feels real and has great potential to grow and evolve. The characters are well fleshed out and behave believable. I cannot wait to pick up the others in this series!!!! I hope to get more in to the tale and hope my son will to ( this will be a series I'll be happy to read and chat with him about!!! )

The Phoenix child is a wonderfully gripping story. I loved it by the seconded chapter. It has a clever spunky lead character that is almost believable, she doesn't react to the situation she finds her self in by crying to the nearest person, like some stories along this line do, but she works it out. It has magic, fantasy animals, friends, adventure and following a character who's finding her self, it's a great read.
I have read this book so many times now, while i'm waiting for the 3rd book to come out.
