The curse of the big couch strikes again! OH THAT COUCH! I have nine people coming over for Thanksgiving dinner and because of that ugly, oh so comfy, wanna make you melt into and never come out couch, is making it so I can’t set up the tables like I had in the past. It doesn’t help that I am insisting on putting up my Christmas tree and decorating it with the Thanksgiving ornaments my baby bassets made. I am like the most illogical child right now. I want a unicorn and I will accept nothing less. All these fits and temper tantrums are all in my head. There is no way I am going to let all this crazy out for people to see. On the inside there is a battle between Christmas trees and the entire staff of plates and dishes from Beauty and The Beast. They are NOT singing right now. On the outside I am sitting on the couch comfy as heck. I might have a bit of a crazy look on my face, but I am comfy.

Runaway
Edwin Page
4.3 Stars (3 Reviews)
Genre: Historical Fiction | United States | African American

FREE for a limited time

From the author of The Hanging Tree comes Runaway, an intimate tale of innocence, acceptance and freedom. The year is 1863 and Joshua is a runaway slave who finds refuge on a farmstead in Missouri. Six year old Clara was born on the farm and is naive to the ways of the world. She abides there with her mother, Lizbet, and discovers Joshua hiding in the barn. Her father is absent, fighting for the Confederacy with Missouri guerrillas, and she soon forms an attachment with the unusual man whose presence she agrees to keep secret. However, not all secrets can be kept, despite best intentions. This is an evocative tale and the interplay of the characters will keep you enthralled. The descriptive qualities match those of The Hanging Tree, as does the emotional content. Engaging in its simplicity, Runaway is sure to touch its readers and is another tale by Edwin Page that will not soon be forgotten.
